Vander comes from the Dutch surname preposition “van der,” meaning “from/of the.” Records were frequently misrecorded and evolved into Vander, including when the founder’s family immigrated to the US. The concept of craft and ideas from the community and building made sense.

The center of the building acts as connector of the building tenants and guests from the community. Entry through the front retail, the space has a view into the fabrication shop and is separated from the architecture studio. Most weekdays, the building is active with moderate noise from the industrious activities of making, designing, and creating. We can request quiet hours for specific blocks of time during a performance or presentation; otherwise, we imagine the rental is part of the active experience of the building.
