About Queenston Pottery

The home, pottery studio/gallery, gardens, woodshop and metal shop can all be rented together or individually. Nestled on the Niagara Escarpment between Queenston and St. Davids, this one-of-a-kind property has been a creative landmark in Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country since 1978. Every structure on the property, the home, the two-level pottery gallery, the working studio, and the gardens, was built by hand by Czech-born artists Eva and Frank Mlcak after emigrating from Czechoslovakia. The result is a property that feels entirely unlike anything else: deeply personal, layered with character, and visually rich at every turn. The Gallery: The two-level pottery gallery is attached to the home and serves as the heart of the property. Warm wood finishes, track lighting, open shelving, and curated ceramic work throughout make it an immediately compelling space for editorial and lifestyle photography, product shoots, events, and gallery-style activations. The gallery opens to the gardens and driveway, making it naturally suited for shoots that flow between indoor and outdoor settings. The Home: The main floor of the home features an open-concept kitchen, living, and dining area with a strong mid-century modern character. Soaring wood-paneled ceilings, clean architectural lines, a statement fireplace, and large windows that frame the escarpment gardens. It's the kind of space that photographers looking for that specific aesthetic will immediately recognize and want to shoot in. A primary suite with a private closet and en suite bathroom, plus a second bedroom or office, round out the main level. The walkout basement offers two additional bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a second living room with a fireplace, and direct access to the lower grounds, making it ideal for larger productions needing multiple distinct spaces or a crew holding area. The Working Studios: The pottery studio is a fully functioning production space with wheels, shelving, and a custom-built reduction kiln fired at over 1300°C. It has the honest, working quality of a space that has been in constant creative use for nearly five decades, an incredible backdrop for artisan brand campaigns, documentary-style content, or any production looking for authenticity over artifice. Also on the property are a metal shop and woodshop, both active working spaces with an industrial, raw aesthetic that adds yet another visual register to what's available on site. The Gardens and Grounds: The terraced escarpment gardens are lush and layered, with stone staircases, mature trees, flowering plantings, and pathways that wind down the hillside between structures. The property opens to sweeping views of open farmland and the surrounding Niagara countryside- pastoral, quiet, and genuinely beautiful. The backyard and back field can accommodate 15 or more vehicles for larger productions. The Neighborhood: The property sits in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country, surrounded by orchards and vineyards just off the scenic Niagara Parkway. It is a destination in its own right, and the surrounding area offers additional texture for productions looking to extend beyond the property. A Note on Hospitality: The property is hosted by a family with deep roots in both the arts and the hospitality industry. Every booking is treated with genuine care, and the team is experienced hosting gallery events, artist programs, and photo productions of varying scales. You are not booking a vacant rental, you are booking a living, working creative space with people who take pride in every guest experience.
