The Star View Room is 3,194 square feet of daylight on the second floor of a 1912 can factory, a few minutes from downtown Roanoke. Original wood plank floors, heavy timber posts, exposed brick, windows down three walls and skylights over the middle. It is a room people remember being in, which is not something you can say about most meeting space.
There is a permanent conference corner with a powered table seating eight - outlets come up through the tabletop - and a pull-down projection screen on the wall beside it. Bring your own projector; I do not have one. There is also a large screen on a rolling cart, so the front of the room is wherever you decide it is, a whiteboard, and a painted chalkboard wall framed by the brick.
Fifty-three chairs and tables come with the room, so you can set it up as classroom, U-shape, theatre or banquet tables, and change it at lunch if the session needs it. Capacity is 45 in every layout: classroom, U-shape, theatre or banquet. The conference table on its own seats 8.
Power: the conference table has outlets through the tabletop, and there are outlets on the posts throughout the open floor. The folding tables have none of their own, so for a laptop-heavy session we set tables beside the posts and run a power strip along the tabletop - never cords across a walkway. If your session needs forty laptops charging all day, tell me before you book and I will tell you how to set it.
Guest wifi runs on its own network. Restrooms are on the same floor, down the corridor. Heated and air conditioned year-round.
Free parking in the lot directly in front of the building, plus free unmetered street parking. A 4,500 lb freight elevator runs to the second floor, so bringing in gear does not mean carrying anything up stairs.
Cleaning is included in the hourly rate. There is no cleaning fee, no service charge and nothing added at the end. There is no catering minimum either, because there is no kitchen and no in-house catering - bring whatever lunch you want, from wherever you want it.
The building is the old Virginia Can Company complex, 46,000 square feet, individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2006. After dark the Mill Mountain Star sits framed in the south windows, which is where the room gets its name.
A note on access: there is an elevator to the second floor and accessible restrooms on the first floor beside it. The step-free route into the building has to be opened for you, so message me ahead if anyone in your group needs it and I will be there to let you in.
I am on site most days and quick to answer.
