Celebrating our New CEO and Bringing 1 Million People Together

I remember attending the first Peerspace booking in March 2014. I watched with excitement as our first guest knocked on their host’s door. I witnessed the host introduce themselves and proceed to walk the guest through the space answering questions along the way. Once the booking was complete and five-star reviews were exchanged, I realized that we were onto something special.

A few years and many bookings later, I’m humbled to share that over one million people have been to a gathering – be that a meeting, event, or production – in a Peerspace location.

Four short years ago, neither Matt nor I ever thought we’d see the day where people beyond our close network would book spaces, that hosts would join our community without us knocking on their doors, or that the likes of Facebook, Google, CNN, and Bloomingdale’s would turn to Peerspace for planning their holiday parties, filming TV segments, and holding team off-sites.

I’ve always said that we’re here to create a transformational product that brings people together and that nothing, especially not personal ambition or ego, should get in the way of making that happen. So when a scrappy startup of two becomes a team of 65 supporting millions of guests, it’s prudent to ask, “Do we have the right leadership in place to take Peerspace to the next level?”

Which is why today, I’m excited to entrust this opportunity to a person I have full faith will see it through, our new CEO, Eric Shoup. Eric comes to us with 20 years of experience building products and growing technology companies in executive roles at eBay, Ancestry, and Scribd. Also joining alongside Eric is Gene Domecus as CFO. Gene is a marketplace and finance veteran having spent over 20 years in various leadership roles at macys.com and more recently as CFO and COO at Blurb.

These additions mark an exciting moment for our team and community of hosts and guests. With Eric at the helm, we expect to strengthen our operational backbone, fine-tune our product roadmap, and scale our culture of hospitality to provide an ever-more delightful experience to our community of hosts, guests, partners, and employees.

So what does this mean for me?  I am happy to say that I will be returning to my product roots and stepping into our Chief Product Officer role and become Chairman of the board.  I’m looking forward to continuing to drive towards our vision of creating a world where it’s easier than ever for people to come together to meet, create, and celebrate.

Please join me in welcoming Eric and Gene to the Peerspace team!
