This space is excellent for anyone that needs a legit and beautiful looking recording studio for film or photo work. It is a fully functional and operating studio hidden away in the hip and central North Park area of San Diego. The studio is in walking distance from many of North Park's wonderful restaurants, bars, breweries, and shops. One or two cars can park in the driveway and the rest should easily find parking on the street nearby. The main space is 765 sqft in total, split up about evenly between a control room and live room. There are also two small soundlocks that can double as "isobooths" and a converted garage that functions as a lounge or green room (complete with full bath, kitchenette, couch, TV, video games, etc.). The garage is not part of the 765 sqft. The studio and garage/lounge are both air-conditioned and feature dimmable lighting as well as access to outside light. Behind the studio is a lovely outdoor patio with seating and shade. The look of the studio is a combination of 1970's and mid-century modern touches. The color scheme includes dark stained wood, deep reds, burnt oranges, browns/tans, and creams. It's a very warm and inviting space filled with recording gear and instruments, but not cluttered. The lounge space has a unique coffee table with circuit board inlay and retro modern lamps. Records done at the studio adorn the lounge walls. The studio can also, obviously, be booked to record music or voice for an additional charge. It also makes for an excellent mix room or mastering facility. The studio was designed by world renowned studio designer, Wes Lachot and features a 32 channel Neve Genesys mixing console, tons of outboard gear, a plethora of new and vintage microphones, and a wide-assortment of instruments including a baby grand piano, Hammond organ, Fender Rhodes, and more. You may book the studio with the Owner/Chief Engineer, Roy, as your engineer or if you have a qualified engineer of your own, Roy can fall back to an assistant role. Rates for studio work are as follows: Recording with Roy: $80/hr Mixing with Roy: $600/song (each song typically takes one day to mix) Mastering with Roy: $100/song Using the studio for recording/mixing/mastering with your own engineer: $50/hr (Roy will assist you as needed) Additional insurance is required to book. The insurance must cover damage to the space/equipment.
