About the Space

This gorgeous 2,000-sq-ft Queen Anne/Classical Revival home is antique on the outside and modern on the inside. The exterior looks almost identical to when it was built in 1908 by one of Riverside County's founders, Martin Hoover. The house, which is City of Riverside Historical Landmark #55, has an old-world appearance, with a wide front porch, ornamental facia and an exterior rotunda. Inside, the common rooms are decorated in a modern, minimalist style. The living room includes a coffee table, chair, sofa and fireplace. The dining room includes a tea area with two shabby chic chairs and a table, and a minimal dining table with six chairs, which sit near an accent wall adorned with twinkling lights. The kitchen is sleek with all stainless steel appliances and marble countertops. The downstairs bathroom has an antique feel with its clawfoot tub, while the upstairs feels more modern with its class-encased stand-up shower. Each bedroom has a unique motif. The front-most bedroom has a fold-out couch, a desk and an armoire and is speckled with authentic artworks from the owner's travels in Asia, including a large fisherman's hat and coat from Guilin, China, several scrolls and a pic photo of a cherry blossom tree. The second room has a pan-European theme. The queen-sized bed is draped with a decorative mosquito net, the desk and shelves are French farm-themed with rustic white paint jobs, and numerous paintings hint at rural European locals. The third bedroom is jungle themed. Much of the décor comes from West Africa and Indonesia. It includes a wicker hanging swing chair, a bare wood bunk bed, a dark wood desk and chair, and other African accents, such as a wicker hanging lamp and a large painting of zebra stripes. The master bedroom is large, approximately 600 square feet, and is sleek and minimal. It includes a California king-sized bed, a sleeper sofa, two ottomans, a rocking chair and an exercise bike. The balcony is small and cozy, and the roof just outside the balcony can safely be walked on, for inward-facing shots. It's furnished with a table, a small wicker love seat, a small desk and chair. Small, white Christmas lights are strung around the trim. The backyard is gated and mostly paved, with space for up to four vehicles. (The owners can make additional space by removing their own vehicles, in which case it can accommodate up to six.) It also has a stand-alone garage (the interior is not available for use) and a seating area with a portable fire pit. Drought-tolerant plants, mostly succulents, bring color to the scene.
