About the Space

Welcome to the Scholar's Sanctuary, a charming 3-story, 2.5 ba rowhome lined floor to ceiling with Italian literature, unique character, and comfortable, homey touches. The open floorpan, recently re-built deck, and large (for DC) back yard are perfect for entertaining and hosting friends and family. Freshly redecorated for the 2025 Summer Vacation Season! This beautiful example of Eckington's Edwardian architecture was originally built in 1905 and completely renovated in 2010 as part of DC's early wave of restoration. This is the owners' home and, while it has been transformed for guest use, it's furnishings and contents are theirs and bare the signs of being lived in and loved for many years. This is a home, not just a house. LOGISTICS Provide an overview of your Event Plan in your booking inquiry (include reason for event, food/beverage vision and budget, general information about attendees, music/sound, and any other relevant information). A more detailed Event Plan will be developed once preliminary details have been discussed. The renting guest must sign a service contract and submit a security deposit within 48 hours of finalizing the reservation on Peerspace but no less than 24 hours prior to the start of the reservation. ***PLEASE NOTE: Guests must use our private chef partners or apply for an exemption to use a third party caterer/chef. Caterers/Private Chefs must carry professional licensing, $100,000 in liability insurance, event insurance (with alcohol rider for events where alcohol will be provided or served), and sign a separate facility use agreement with the host. Guests wishing to prepare their own food must obtain an event insurance policy. Details will be provided during the booking process. All event supply rentals must be arranged with host through our partner rental services.*** CAPACITY: Indoor events are limited to 15 total guests (including any staff/contracted service providers). Indoor/Outdoor events can accommodate up to 35 total guests. Larger event sizes may be arranged with a staggered entry time and doorman/security. Inquire with host for details. AVAILABILITY & ACCESS Standard hours of operation are as listed but earlier hours may be possible for an additional fee. Events must end and all attendees exit by 11pm. Cleanup/breakdown must be completed by 12am. Property will be opened by the host at the designated setup time. Attendees will have access to the space at the designated event time. Anyone not involved in setup/preparations are not permitted until the event's designated start time as defined in service contract. The host will notify you in person 30 minutes prior to your reservation end time to assist with any cleanup and closing instructions and lock up the property behind you. ALL attendees, guests, contractors, and staff must exit the property at the designated end time. Additional hours will be billed in 30-minute increments at the hourly rate specified in the service contract and charged to the credit card on file. The entrance is located up several steps, there are stairs inside the house, and the back yard is accessed down a half flight of steps. This property is not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult to navigate for guests with significant mobility limitations. INCLUDED IN RENTAL - Large backyard with deck, propane grill (1 tank included), outdoor seating options - Living room, dining room with table chairs for 8, and full kitchen** - 1.5 bathrooms (½ bath on main floor, 1 full bath in upstairs hallway) - 32" TV with Roku device (renters must sign in to their own streaming or app accounts, cable not included) - Wifi throughout with booster packs available - Plates, cups, & flatware for groups up to 12 ** Guests may not use the plates, bowls, flatware, or glassware in the kitchen cabinets. By request, we will provide a set of up to 12 place settings, including wine glasses, specifically available for Peerspace/venue renters. Guests are responsible for scraping and loading these into the dishwasher during the allotted breakdown/cleanup time. NOT INCLUDED IN RENTAL - Basement (see below) - Upstairs bedrooms (see below) - Plates/cups/cutlery for groups larger than 12. For groups of 13 or greater, guests must purchase COMPOSTABLE single use plates/cups/cutlery (can be purchased through SaltSugarFire Hospitality; compost must be sorted from regular trash in accordance with our compost guide; compost collection is included in rent) or rent through our partner party rental service. Cancellation Policy

Standard 30 day

Guests may cancel their Booking until 30 days before the event start time and will receive a full refund (including all Fees) of their Booking Price. Guests may cancel their Booking between 30 days and 7 days before the event start time and receive a 50% refund (excluding Fees) of their Booking Price. Cancellations submitted less than 7 days before the Event start time are not refundable. Learn more

All Bookings are subject to Peerspace’s Grace Period policy which provides a full refund for Bookings cancelled within 24 hours from receipt of a Booking Confirmation but no later than 48 hours prior to the Event start time.
