Is Matheson a real place?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Matheson, Massachusetts is a fictional town but that doesn\u2019t mean the sights you see on the show are fictional, too! The town of Matheson is actually a combination of a few different Canadian towns in Ontario and Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the sets from the series are CGI but there are plenty of places from the show that you can visit in Canada, too! We\u2019ll walk you through which of the iconic sets are real, which ones are CGI, and which ones were built in the studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is The Keyhouse real?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sadly, you aren\u2019t going to be able to find the Keyhouse no matter how hard you search the Canadian countryside. While the Locke family home is one of the most recognizable structures in the series, it\u2019s actually a mix of a studio-built front facade and a CGI exterior. As for the land around the Keyhouse, that does exist! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hamilton Spectator<\/a> reports the exterior shots of the Keyhouse were all shot on a property located on Concession 11 East near Freelton in Ontario. However, since this property is on private land, this location isn\u2019t open for fans to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where are the drowning caves under the Keyhouse Manor?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since we\u2019ve already discussed the Keyhouse isn\u2019t a real building, it probably doesn\u2019t come as any surprise that you aren\u2019t going to find caves under the Canadian manor where filmmakers shot \u201cLocke & Key\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the caves do exist elsewhere! The staircase leading to the subterranean Black Door can be found in Ovens Natural Park in Feltzen South, Nova Scotia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can even take a tour<\/a> of the sea caves if you visit but keep in mind, these aren\u2019t the sea caves that were used to shoot the interior of the Drowning Caves in the series. Crews built the \u201cLocke & Key\u201d filming location for the interior of the caves is the Cinespace Film Studios in Toronto<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is Matheson Academy a real school?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Another fun \u201cLocke & Key\u201d filming location that actually exists is the Matheson Academy, where the Locke kids go to school. In real life, the Matheson Academy is known as Humber College on the Humber Institute of Technology campus in Ontario. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you visit the campus, you\u2019ll notice many of the interiors of the G Building Centre for Entrepreneurship<\/a> look pretty familiar. However, if you’re looking for the  Matheson Academy Hall, you won\u2019t find it at Humber. The hall is actually the Graham Library<\/a> at the Wycliffe College in Toronto!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Lunenburg is a pretty dreamy place to visit, whether you are a \u201cLocke & Key\u201d fan or not! According to the official Nova Scotia website<\/a>, Lunenburg is one of only two urban communities in North America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While you are exploring this gorgeous and historical town, make sure to visit Sweet Treasures Confectionery for a yummy treat. This shop proudly served<\/a> as the ice cream parlor on Montague Street in \u201cLocke & Key\u201d! Two other Lunenburg locations to check out are the Zion Lutheran Church (in episode 9) and The Salt Shaker Deli and Inn (in episode 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Hamilton, Ontario<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Take a trip to Hamilton, Ontario and you can discover tons of \u201cLocke & Key” sights! For example, remember the Strand Theatre where \u201cThe Splattering II\u201d premiered? That\u2019s actually the Westdale Theatre, an independent film and cultural space located at 1014 King Street in Hamilton. Or how about the McClellan Psychiatric Hospital from episode four? That\u2019s the Sisters of St. Joseph’s motherhouse on Dundas’ Northcliffe Road near Hamilton. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
