Features of The Shackteau The Shackteau is a 2022 construction which mixes French-Country design with modern technology. The vibe is cozy despite the wide-open floor plan, and luxurious without getting too precious about it. The house was designed for real living and serious entertaining - not as a delicate show-piece. The Shackteau features a beautiful kitchen, commandeered by your hosts, who strive to provide your group with a perfect food day! Basic snacking is always part of your rental. Your hosts are brand new to this particular platform so we are starting with an introductory low rate while we learn, gather feedback and work out any bugs! THE GROUNDS Bevvy Garden, Side Pasture & Conversation Pit (Add-On) The Bevvy Garden shares a wall with the kitchen. Surrounded by wattled fence on other 3 sides. Has outdoor power, outdoor filtered water spigot. Add-ons include fridge, extra standing cooler, extra metal drink bins, and canopy tent. **We cannot directly sell alcohol, but we can offer an Add-on to serve it. Please inquire. The Bevvy Garden is located in the side pasture, where there is plenty of space for cocktail tables or dinner tables. Lights are strung throughout. About 20 paces from the Bevvy garden and just over the post and rail fence is a 6' round spool table outfitted with checkered tablecloth and umbrella. Sauna (Add-On) Positioned just off the east side of the main house, and perhaps 10 paces from the Bevvy Garden. Harvia-Vega brand, also enclosed by wattled fencing with a little gate. Supposedly for 6 people, but 4 of fewer is a more comfortable number. Add-ons include robes and towels. Glamping tent (Add-On) 20' diameter and 20' high in the center. About 100 paces in front of the main Shackteau towards the lake, nestled in a little cove of trees. Tent floor is oriental rugs. Has 4 zip-open screen windows and if desired the entire bottom can be unzipped so that there is 360 open air between the floor and the bottom edge of the canopy. It can be dressed up or down for anything. Tent has a silent Jackery power generator that powers a ceiling-mounted fan, and Bang & Olufsen bluetooth speaker. It receives signal on one of the 2 wi-fi networks on the property. Not great for presentations requiring a screen (due to the slope of the canopy) but excellent for breakout activities surrounded by bird-song. Add-ons include table/chairs, chrome water tank. Depending on the activity, accommodates perhaps 7-10 people sitting. Lottie's Lodge (Add-On) One-room cabin with a sitting porch and its own wi-fi network which is reachable from almost any of the outdoor spaces except the very end of the dock. Surrounded by a picket fence with gates on either end. Overlooks the lake and the fire pit. Heated by a pellet stove on a thermostat, and has bunk beds, fold-down desk, 2 chairs, mini-fridge, freezer, microwave and moose-antler chandelier. This space can be dressed up for almost anything, and often makes a nice food / coffee / drink station for cold-weather bonfires. Also makes a very good headquarters for organizers, 1:1 meetings or meeting supply storage. Includes coffee maker, microwave, chrome water tank. Firepit-kitchen, Dock, Boats, and Hammock station (Add-On) Firepit is surrounded by built-in bench seating for 12, with plenty more room behind those benches for more Add-on chairs. Has a stocked firewood shed and dedicated kitchen shed with cooking implements. A nice Add-on to this space is an 80" movie screen which can be strung between 2 trees behind the firepit kitchen. 2 Hammocks are strung halfway down the hill to the dock, offering a view of the lake. The dock is 100' long and bisects a gorgeous wetland section featuring giant ferns and solar lanterns hanging from the trees. In July wild blueberries grow along it, which can be eaten right off the bush. At the end of the dock is a 12' x 12' floating platform with chaise lounges, umbrella and Corinthian Bells windchimes for relaxing. Swim raft ~100 feet off the dock. 2 stand-up paddleboards, 4 sit-on-top kayaks, 1 large rowboat and some tubes. No gasoline powered vehicles are allowed on this lake, so it's peaceful. Horse Barn & Chicken Coop (Not generally intended as part of a rental) The Shackteau is the home of 2 rescue miniature horses Bandit and MadEye. They are 6 year old twin brothers who are diabetic, and MadEye is blind in one eye. Friendly, soft and curious, they will eagerly greet individuals at the fences adjacent to the event spaces. They really enjoy a bedtime story at night, their favorite being The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh. There are also a gaggle of chickens free ranging the property. We collect eggs every day and guests are welcome to wander in to the coop and find their own during the day. The 10 ladies and 2 gentlemen fowl go to bed at dusk, where they are locked in until morning. They work hard to keep the Shackteau bug-free, so they need a good night's sleep!
