PLAYGROUND DETROIT is an art gallery and creative talent agency. The premier gallery space located along Gratiot Avenue is available for many events including private parties, corporate networking, workshops, panel discussions and more!
Uses include: Performance, Rehearsal, Special Events, Class, Photo Shoot, Video/Film Shoot, Screening, Meeting, Exhibition
The available open space is approximately 1100 square feet. The gallery retains its original hardwood floors, repaired and refinished, and fresh white walls. The high ceiling (approx. 13") has industry standard track lighting with dimmers, providing flexibility to control the room ambience. The front facade and windows provide perfect daylight, in addition to the gallery lighting system. There is a staff-only upper loft in the main gallery.
The gallery is on the first floor of a renovated building that was once Glees Exchange, a hardware store with an above apartment by John Glees. It can be segmented into three parts: the front/main gallery, kitchen & restroom, and back patio.
Capacity is 50-75 seated / 150-200 standing / 250+ come/go traffic, but it also feels like an ideal environment for an intimate evening with as few as 20 guests.
The location is ADA-compliant, with two handicap accessible drinking fountains, and one unisex toilet. The back of house/ office includes an industrial sink and full-size refrigerator.
The gallery is designed to be reconfigurable, with two moving walls and rolling desk or DJ booth. The main gallery space has 14 power outlets- plenty for even the most intensive film or video needs.
