The house was designed in 1937 and constructed in 1938 as a Modernist home and studio, blending traditional Japanese domestic design with a rural American vernacular. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the American Institute of Architects top 200 architectural sites in Illinois and is a designated local landmark by the Village of Schaumburg. The house is an important early design modernist providing the foundation for mid century modernism to follow after WWII. Its elegant assembly of simple materials, wood brick and glass, has drawn praise for decades by both the architecture community around the world as well as delighting local curiosity seekers. It was the home of modernist architect Paul Schweikher as well as Alex and Martyl Langsdorf - Manhattan Project physicist and artist respectively - a convergence of art and architecture. We are located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, easily accessible to downtown, O'Hare airport, many corporate headquarters and Woodfield Mall. Plenty of parking for 12 vehicles year round, up to 30 during summer and fall. All rooms in the house and artist studio are available for use. We also have over 7 acres of land including a native Illinois field, a beautiful creek and a forested perimeter - also available for use. Previous rentals include Netflix, Cars.com, CB2, Troscan, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago to name a few.
