The iconic 5-acre hillside estate, reputed to be the former home of legendary magician Harry Houdini features a surprising amount of light, an expansive lawn, terraced gardens filled with exotic plants, a rock waterfall, a natural-spring pond, an hour of hiking trails with an unexpected ocean view, and romantic gazebos with stunning canyon vistas. Ten stories of multiple backgrounds, tropical, jungle, hills, terraces, hidden gardens, caves, rock passages, cliffs and much more. Built in the Edwardian tradition in the early 1900s, the estate still has the deep-water tank where Harry Houdini reportedly practiced his underwater escapes. High-speed Internet, satellite television, outdoor fireplaces, barbecue patios, five gazebos, three water fountains, a heated pool, and an outdoor spa. The estate and its gardens were restored after the 1959 Laurel Canyon Fire and now enjoys modern amenities while maintaining the grand mystique and marvel of Harry Houdini. The property’s 3000 sf main house has two stories, and four bedrooms. A master suite features a carved-stone mantelpiece and a spacious bathroom with a whirlpool tub, five bathrooms including an outdoor one, ample living room next to dining area, and an open-plan kitchen. Greenrooms, wardrobe and make up area. Easy loading area, storage space for equipment. The fenced and gated estate is very private and 6 minutes from Sunset Boulevard, 7 minutes from Beverly Hills, and 13 minutes from Universal Studios. Accessible to the gate by public transportation. EVENTS* The minimum event rental is three days and two nights, one for you and us to prepare the estate; one for the event itself; and one to tear down, collect your belongings, rest, and fully enjoy the estate. The gated and fenced property can park 50 cars, up to 80 inside with valet. With Uber, shuttles, and valet, the estate has hosted more than 1,000 guests. We only provide the property, so you’re welcome to bring your own caterers, equipment, decorations, and rentals. We’re also happy to make suggestions and help you plan. Please note, outdoor music of moderate volume is allowed until 10:00 p.m. per city ordinance, indoors until 2:00 a.m. Following are approximate costs for a three-day, two-night stay incorporating a one-day seven-hour event with midday checkout. These rates don’t apply to national holiday weekends, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Halloween weekends or parts of those weekends, which all cost 50% more due to demand, overtime and hard-to-get personnel. Please include guests and your staff in your total headcount. The final cost is determined by the event’s length (5% extra each additional hour over seven hours), the number of days, and if there is a pre- or after-party, $1,000 each. *Your event might require that we obtain a permit from the Zoning Administrator. No extra charge for it. SITE VISITS We receive many requests for tours, but the estate rarely opens its doors to visitors. To be selective, we charge $100 to your group to send somebody knowledgeable about the estate and event planning to open and explain the property’s possibilities. Your $100 payment is donated entirely to an IRS-recognized charity; you will also receive a credit of $200 toward your rent with our compliments if you book at the showing. Bring comfortable shoes and reserve an hour for the tour. Additional services available by request. Please inquire for details about staffing, and additional extras. Cleaning Fee $350 for light cleaning. Free Parking up to 50 Cars. A security deposit equal to the total amount of booking is due 30 days in advance. The number of guests is restricted to the number of guests disclosed in your reservation. Guests must provide additional insurance and valid permits for all vendors. Broken or missing items could be deducted from your deposit. Trash must be taken out at the end of your booking, and placed in the outdoor dumpster. No loud music outside after 10pm. No smoking allowed inside the house. No pets without written authorization.
