Kristine D. booked a video shoot for 20 people
It's unfortunate to have to do this, but our team was sorely unhappy with the way this transaction was executed. The space is great if you're willing to overlook communication issues and a general lack of transparency regarding the rate of this space. If you're looking at the pictures and would like access to the space behind the leaf-print doors, know that Raul will negotiate an additional charge to make up the difference in rate between that room and the space this listing is actually for, which is only the room with the checkered floor. The pictures are misleading since the doors are open in a couple photos, so be aware that what you're paying for is only the room with the checkered floor and not the additional room featured in the pictures. We would have had the opportunity to clarify this with him, however, attempts made to view the space with Raul were poorly executed. Both times he'd agreed for our team to arrive on site for a location/tech scout, he was not present as agreed. The first time, he was a complete no-show and the second, he made our team of 7 people wait for an hour before notifying me that he was on-site. I'd made several attempts to call him at the contact number listed on the confirmation page with no answer. Instead, he contacted me from a separate number only moments before my team was about to give up and scrap the site visit. It was at that point, after having booked the space with only 5 days from our shoot, that he clarified the additional charges to secure the space. We made an additional payment of $490 to Raul via Venmo on top of the $800+ we paid to secure the space - it was previously listed at $50/hr (3/18/21) with the same photos still being used as of today (4/15/21) while the space is currently listed at $75/hr. We booked for a total of 14 hours. Moveover, this additional payment only covered the difference between the checkered room and the second room, and if we'd wanted to book both rooms then we would have had to pay closer to $800 on top of our original booking. The California Business and Professions Code Section 12024.2 (a) (1) states that it is unlawful for any person, at the time of sale of a commodity, to [...] Charge an amount greater than the price, or to compute an amount greater than a true extension of a price per unit, that is then advertised, posted, marked, displayed, or quoted for that commodity. Be aware of this code, as it will protect you against what we had to experience. Perhaps it is my own fault for booking the space before meeting with Raul, but with so many positive reviews, our team was comfortable moving forward. Given our timeline, we did what we had to do. This was a big mistake and put our production over budget. I've learned my lesson here. We were also met with more obstacles than anticipated as, in addition to the aforementioned, our items were removed from the room by building staff without our notification or consent. To our surprise, after our booked load-in time the night before our shoot, upon our arrival the next morning our sets had been taken down. For any producers who value their time, money, and self-respect, I would not recommend booking here as the communication and transparency is lackluster at best. If your heart is set on this space, go into the conversation with Raul knowing that you'll have to remain vigilant when keeping him accountable and transparent throughout the process. If it's worth the headache and risk to your team, go for it! But if you'd like a seamless and comfortable process, look somewhere else. This experience has discouraged our team from continuing to use Peerspace in the future.
