Located in West Midtown, The Movement Lab ATL is best known for presenting an affordable and intimate venue for professionals, artists, and community members in all fields. Your creative workshops, rehearsals, think tanks, board meetings, hack-a-thons, performances, dance + fitness classes, and other creative gatherings are welcomed. We highly encourage Black women, their allies, and all creatives in between to grace the space with their innovative and radiant energy. ** This venue (The Movement Lab ATL) comes curated with spontaneous T. Unfortunately this location did not meet my expectations. I tried to handle it directly with the host but was not given much help. I’ll start with what I spoke to the owner about. I requested a projector for a workshop event, when we got to the location, a string art installation was put right in front of the projector and the wall it projects on. Meaning the PowerPoint that was detailed with information was more than half blocked by the strings. I had to last minute send someone to get a TV for the presentation as the projector was unusable. I understood and spoke to an employee there at the time about receiving my payment back for the projector that was unusable. I messaged the host about the refund, and she said that I can’t get a refund because they notified of “spontaneous art work”. Which, I am ok with if it doesn’t make something we paid extra for unusable. I don’t feel I should be charged for it. Not to mention the inconvenience of having to go search for another way of showing a presentation that is a HUGE part of a workshop. I was offered a free projector for the next booking, which now I have no guarantee will even be usable because “spontaneous artwork” may block it. I also would like to point out on the review that the lack of professionalism doesn’t stop there. We had to clean the bathrooms and countertops before we could set up because of all the dirt on them. The person who helped us, while very friendly and eager to help also watched tv very loudly in a loft space above the room while the presentation was happening. It was a workshop where detailed information was given but all we could hear was the tv upstairs. I am very disappointed by how this was handled, especially because I understand the difficulties of running a small business. I was ok with letting the two things go because I thought it may have just been an off day, but lack of care of the host made that I won’t be booking again. This space should only be advertised for dance only because, if you need to present anything on the projector, you can’t be sure if it will be functional.
