"Witten Pond" is a creative haven perfect for retreats, offsites, workshops, and other gatherings fueled by creative energy and a love of nature. It is often used as a creative retreat center, and as an artist residency. Our stunning, one-of-a-kind renovated post-and-beam barn is a haven filled with art, plants, and sunlight. Downstairs it has a large living/meeting area with seating for 20+ (two couches, a large farm table, plus desk space and additional chairs), fully equipped kitchen, and bathroom. Upstairs it has an open sleeping loft with three comfortable beds in an open-floor-plan layout. Also on the property are two guest houses: "Lily of the Valley," a 100-year-old post-and-beam hunting lodge with a wrap-around porch, and our Artist's Studio House, a colorful and sun-filled studio. The property is surrounded by the forever-wild Catskill State Park Forest, and the entire compound circles a pristine spring-fed pond, nestled between a gorgeous rushing river and the forever-wild Catskill Mountains. More on the individual spaces below: Barn living space: There is plenty of comfy seating for reading and relaxing with a cocktail, and a large farm table perfect for large group meals. We have tons of art, books, records, and plants giving the space a creative, inspiring feel. There's a mini ping pong table, too, which we can leave in the space upon request. This is an extremely fun space to gather and unwind with family, friends, colleagues, or collaborators. Barn sleeping loft: This space was formerly a hay loft, so while the three beds each have their own separate areas (with extra room dividers for increased privacy), the "bedrooms" all share an open floor plan. There is a queen-sized bed on the lower level of the loft, and two full-sized beds in the upper level. Barn kitchen: The small but equipped kitchen is open to the barn's living space, perfect for communal cooking or catering. It has a two-burner gas range, microwave, dishwasher, sink, and refrigerator set behind a stone bar with two dining stools (note: it doesn't have an oven). Barn bathroom: Enjoy a clawfoot tub with European-style shower (no stand-up shower), a Finnish-style dry sauna, and a toilet with bidet and heated seat. Privacy: The barn is a completely private space with its own separate entrance, however you should know that it attaches to an apartment in which we live. Guest house 1: The antique, 100-year-old "Lily of the Valley" guest house features a comfortable living room and fireplace perfect for getting cozy with a good book. With its open floor plan, the cabin’s downstairs invites you to relax, cook a meal, or open the french doors to stroll out onto the wrap-around porch for a view of the Catskill Mountains beyond. As you walk upstairs, you’ll notice the single-branch railing dating back to the early 1900s, when this rustic cabin was fashioned as a camp for loggers and hunters. Upstairs, you’ll find an open, light-filled library room with a comfortable queen-sized bed sandwiched between huge windows and numerous skylights. As you wake up each morning, these windows invite you to rise with the sun, and doze back to sleep as the leaves rustle in the trees. Lily of the Valley has a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with clawfoot tub, and a dining table with seating for 6. Guest house 2: The Artist's Studio House is a colorful, bright, and comfortable artist's cottage, from which you can view the mountains from your dining table. Sleep in a loft above a simple yet fully equipped kitchen, and use the woodstove for a cozy night in. Enjoy a spa-style shower with window out onto the forest beyond. The Studio House features murals and bright, contemporary styling. The property: We are on 17 private acres that abut the forever-wild Catskill State Park Forest. Our place is on a dead-end dirt road frequented mainly by hikers who drive up to climb a bushwack trail that's just a short walk from the studio house. Our property looks out over a private spring-fed pond, which flows into a beautiful river right across the road (and the sound of the river serenades the whole property!). We have perennial gardens, sitting and meditating spots, and plenty of room to wander around and explore. What's nearby: While our property feels completed secluded, we're just a 10-minute drive to groceries and other supplies. For great food, antiquing, live music, and other fun stuff, drive to Phoenicia (15 min drive), Woodstock (20 min drive), or Kingston (30 min drive). There is great skiing nearby, and amazing hiking, sight-seeing, and fine dining. Upon request, we will send you our favorite local spots—including local breweries, pizza, swimming, and hiking.
