Everybody who has visited the studio has fallen in love with its unique configuration even before we made any headway in clearing it out. Photographers, filmmakers, visual artists love the light, the openness, the versatility and potenial. We've just opened and are in the process of building out this space as a photography studio, an event location, and a gallery. With a few backdrops in a 25'x30' space, we are open for business now. There is abundant natural light and have some gear and props, all of which are available to clients. At one end of main studio space, under an 11' ceiling, are backdrops and lights. At the other, the room opens up to a bright, naturally lit area under two rows of six foot tall clerestory windows that run about fifty feet down the top of the building. We have another movable backdrop stand which you can use wherever you would like. We'd love to host your next creative production. At this time, we can shoot film/video, but there are fans running in another part of the building, so not good for filming requiring sound. There isn't much nearby. The building is on a dead-end street on the fringes of the Oakland neighborhood known as Durant Manor. There is a large construction project across the street. It's easy to get to, driving. There is a dock-high rollup door if you need to bring in something big. It certainly will make moving equipment, props, clothes, etc., in and out. SPACE FEATURES Main studio area 750 sq. ft with furniture on sides of room. Empty windowless 15'x18' room with high ceiling and smaller windowless room with lower ceiling upstairs. Balcony with bright clerestory industrial windows as backdrops. On-site manager. Charcoal grey 9' continuos backdrop, 6' pink continuous paper backdrop, large black and burgundy cloth rococo backdrop, various raw warehouse walls usable as backdrops. Natural light, best before 1 pm or after 6 pm WIFI - 86 Mbps Download, 6 Mbps Upload CONVENIENCE Ground floor with low dock-high rollup gate. Studio is not quiet enough for sound stage work. Power strips and extension cords to cover all spaces. There is a reception area that can be used for make-up, etc. There is a room with a clothing rack that can be used as a dressing room. The natural light is very bright and mid-afternoon shines directly into the space, effectively blowing out that one area. All interior areas of the space accessible for production purposes, if needed. Space is about 3000 sq. ft. total. We haven't built out the power infrastructure yet, but there is enough power coming in to the building for anything - just give us enough warning to tap into it for you. RULES SECTION (different than About The Space section) On arrival, call or text so I can raise rollup door and open front door for your access. You can park a trailer on the street. No firearms or incendiary devices allowed in building. If you need some kind of open flame beyond candles for your shoot, please inquire first. Figurative nude and/or erotic photography is ok. Porn, no. You have access to all spaces, if an associate is present. Reasonable noise restrictions apply. Nothing too loud after 9 pm. I love Knox’s space. I returned for some extra shots for my music video which went very well. Knox is a great host, and this space is without a doubt a hidden gem. Due to an absurd amount of character and versatility, you won’t regret booking Knox’s space.

The space was phenomenal, although there was no power in the upstairs section which was not advertised. Will be returning however.

Jeff L. booked a photo shoot for 2 people
What a great space! All sorts of interesting areas to shoot. Had a great shoot. You should plan to shoot during daylight hours or bring your own lighting, but the space itself is excellent.

Excellent venue, outstanding host. The place is a converted workshop with a rusty forklift. There is some direct light from large windows into a big living area, which has a paper backdrop and some flood lights. Funky furniture abounds as do two buddha statues on the first floor. The room on top has excellent white walls and some decaying tiles. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to shoot in or on and interesting compositions abound. I would heartily recommend this location for an unusual photo shoot. You might want to bring your own strobe as well.
