The Knowlton was once home to the Armstrong Manufacturing Company — a well-known tool and die manufacturer in the 1800s and little known creator of a technologically advanced prototype “horseless carriage” built in 1895, and the first electric car was built at The Knowlton in the 1900’s. This historic, a one-of-a-kind waterfront venue located on the Pequonnock River estuary in the Washington Park Historic District on Bridgeport’s East Side. Once referred to as “Pembroke City” — it is an area rich with some of the finest examples of nineteenth century residential architecture in the country — largely due to P.T. Barnum and William Noble, who invested heavily in its development. Today, The Knowlton houses a thriving community of visual artists, cutting edge innovators and production companies, surrounded by a world-class mural park. Studio 7 is not short on historic charm and character, and available to rent on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. The original hardwood floors, high ceilings and a view of the Pequonnock River and other notable architectural details permeate this uncommon space with a barn door entry, opening up to 700 square feet - 19’ x 31’ with 14’ ceiling - and 4 oversized windows allowing for great natural light. Each window is also equipped with black out shades for controlled lighting. Studio. 7 is ideal for Photo Shoots, Video Shoots, Painters, Sculptors, Designers, Writers, or other artists who are looking for a space to grow their creative skill and mindset. We include utilities, heat, AC, free wifi, built in track lighting, ample power outlets, access to same-level bathrooms, as-well-as an artist “slop sink” just down the hall. Separately, we offer photo and video equipment rental and consultation if applicable.
