COVID-19 Health & Safety Measures

We clean thoroughly between each booking and typically have someone on site during each booking who regularly cleans and disinfects common surfaces.

Enhanced cleaning measures:

High touch surfaces and shared amenities have been disinfected

All hosts are required to do the following prior to each booking:

Sweep, mop, vacuum and clean the space.
Supply a hand washing station with soap, warm water, and paper towels or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Clean common areas allowing guest access including bathrooms, kitchens, and entrances.
Collect and clean dishes, silverware, and other provided host amenities, if applicable.
Remove garbage and add new lining to cans.

About the Space

Built in 1932 by a Chicago mobster, over the past 100 years the Castle has served as an underground casino, speakeasy, high-end restaurant, riding academy, residence, and since 1983 a world class recording studio. The building sits on a 32 acre plot of land made up of sprawling grass fields and a cedar forest creeping up a limestone hill in the back. Maintained walking trails lead to a clearing on the top of the hill which offers an incredible view of the valley below. The interior of the Castle consists of the main tracking room, the piano room, the "stone" room, a full kitchen and lounge, and the control room.

Parking description

There is plenty of parking around the building including a gravel lot that can accommodate roughly 15 vehicles. We also have overflow parking on the property for 100+ vehicles that we utilize for large events.

Lighting description

There are windows in most every room of the studio. The windows on the south side of the studio have floor to ceiling curtains that effectively block out all light. The windows along the north side of the building (which includes those in the main tracking room and control room) have typical vertical blinds. These are all old school framed windows so we often tape trash bags or some other type of material in the frames to black them out if this is required. The light coming through these windows is strongest late in the day.

Space is soundproof

Ambient noise description

The building is and operating commercial recording studio so soundproofing from the outdoors and between rooms is excellent. All rooms have custom low flow HVAC systems to mitigate any noise.

Equipment loading description

The back of the building has a pull through driveway that provides access to the main load in door. There is a loading ramp into the building with a straight shot into the main tracking room. Because the building is quite old, some of the doors are a bit narrower than standard doors and may not accommodate all road cases.

Staging area is available

The top floor of the Castle has a large room and a small bathroom that can be used for makeup, wardrobe, etc. It is accessible by a staircase in the main tracking room as well as an exterior entrance.

All rooms are available for shooting

Shooting the exterior of the building is allowed

Electrical system description

Being that it is a recording studio, we have plenty of outlets and ample power handling. We have two separate power services running into the building. We prefer to keep all audio gear on one (orange outlets) and all lighting and other appliances on the other (white outlets). We will have a crew member present who will be available to help you find appropriate power sources.

Lance and his team were so great to work with. They were extremely helpful and responsive to all my questions. Their efforts made the event run smoothly. Will definitely have another event here!

This was an amazing place! Right from the booking process, Lance was very prompt in communication and very accommodating of our needs. Cory, the sound engineer was great! We had some unique needs given the need to stream the session to a voice coach/coordinator in India and the song was in Hindi (a language Cory does not know) in a different genre than what he is used to. We had a last minute need to line in an Indian pitch reference instrument (Tanpura) for the vocal artist, but Cory got all that setup and going in a short time to keep us on schedule! Would definitely consider for future sessions.

From the beginning Lance was amazing at making sure he was as accommodating as possible! The communication was prompt and always helpful. When we got to the venue it was just as promised very retro and a real working music studio. Ian was great and cared for our every need. They provided drinks and snacks. I could not have found a better place to shoot our video, which came out great! Definitely would recommend this venue!
