House Instructions:
No Smoking in the Cabin.
Noise: In the evening please keep the noise level down out of respect for our neighbors. Even though we’re in the country, noise tends to travel.
Supplies: There are paper towels, toilet paper, bath towels, and toiletries in the closet at the end of the hall.
Thermostat: Feel free to turn the thermostat to whatever temperature you would like. The thermostat is round and black and is located in the hallway. It's a Google Nest thermostat. To increase the temperature you rotate the outer rim to the right and to decrease you rotate it to the left. To change between air conditioning and heat, press it in and rotate it to the mode you want and then press it in again.
The two bedrooms upstairs have individual AC units and individual baseboard heating units.
Toilets: You may need to hold down the handles on the toilets to make sure they flush completely.
The cabin uses a septic tank so please do not flush anything except tissue.
Floors: Try not to slide the furniture or anything across the floors. The floors are pine and scratch easily.
Pool: If you use the pool, turn the pool pump on by pushing the "ON" button on the side of the pump. If it doesn't turn on try pushing the RESET button on the pool pump plug. Also, in the garage, there is a net if you need to clean any large items out of the pool. Enjoy!
Fridge: The right door of our refrigerator doesn’t always want to close tightly. Make sure it’s closed completely as you use it and before you leave. There are ice trays in the freezer. The ice maker in the door doesn't work but the water dispenser does.
Televisions: To turn on the television you will need to get the Dish remote. The Dish remote turns on both the SAT receiver and the TV. Push the SAT button on the side of the remote if the remote is not responding.
Dishwasher: Place a detergent pod in the container and close the door. Push the ON button. Select 60min. Then press start.
Wood-Burning Stove (Fireplace) - If you build a fire in the wood-burning stove here are some helpful tips.
First, make sure you have the chimney flue open. You open the flue by pulling the top handle out toward you away from from the stove.
Second, use only hardwood in the fireplace. Do not use pine.
Third, position your wood.
Fourth, before you light the fire, light a piece of paper, wood, or cardboard and hold the flame up inside the stove where the chimney begins to go up. This will “warm” up the air in the chimney and create the draft that you will need. Otherwise, the smoke will come into the living room.
Fifth, once you see the smoke begin to rise into the chimney then you can light your fire.
Sixth, Never leave a fire unattended! When you are done with the fire and it has burned down, you can close the doors of the stove. Keep the flue open so that any remaining smoke continues to go up the chimney and not into the house.
Seventh, Before you leave the house check and make sure the fire is out.
Fire Pit: There is a fire pit down by the pond. There is wood in the garage and plenty of fallen limbs around the property you can burn. Feel free to enjoy a good fire but make sure it is extinguished when you’re done. You can use the red bucket in the garage to get water from the pond to pour on the fire to extinguish it.
Pond & Pool: Enter at your own risk. If you enter the pond you need to wear a life jacket.
Leaving Instructions:
Turn the thermostat downstairs to 78 in summer (if the AC is on) and 60 in the winter (if the heat is on).
