David R. booked an interview video shoot for 2 people
We booked this space for a filmed interview. The space has doors that can be pulled down over the large windows to control the light which is good for video or photo shoots. There is a ramp to load in gear which was one of the main reasons for booking this space over other loft style spaces available in Houston for a brick look background. Unfortunately, the door to the ramp would not open. The deadbolt unlocked but the handle lock wouldn't unlock so I had to haul the gear cases up the back staircase. which took a lot longer than being able to use the ramp. The furniture in the photographs wasn't in the position shown in the photos. The space was empty and the white furniture was up in the loft area. These are important details that should be noted in the space description. Noise: There are train tracks about 150 feet from the space and trains would go by slowly every hour or so. This should be considered when booking for a video shoot and should also be included in the "sound" portion of the listing especially when marketing it as a great space for video shoots. When the wind blows, the roof creaks which also can interfere with the audio recording. For those reasons, I wouldn't recommend this space for any video recording that would need clean audio. On the good side, the HVAC noise was barely noticeable and easily corrected in post production. The host also didn't inform me that there would be 2 people coming to work from a small office near the back door while the space was rented. It was awkward to be doing our shoot with 2 people listening in across the room. These are details that should be disclosed either by the host or noted in the description. The location is very convenient to downtown and if you are looking for really nice natural light from the windows with an urban loft look, it would be great for photos. However, I wouldn't use this again for a video interview shoot due to the sound concerns and the ramp issue.
