A large, modern mountain log cabin directly on the Cullasaja River overlooking rapids near the base of a 250' waterfall. The scenery is breathtaking and the sound of rushing water is truly invigorating. The cabin features a large open floor plan where everyone has a superb vantage of nature, with large windows and outdoor decks facing the river. BEDROOMS AND LINENS: The cabin has 2 Queen bedrooms and a Curtained Loft with a new Queen bed. All three sleeping areas have fans. Sheets and pillows are clean and plenty of white towels are in the bathrooms. DOORS AND SCREEN DOORS DOWNSTAIRS: The back-covered porch is screened, but we recommend keeping the doors to the cabin closed at night as bugs can sometimes get through the screen and make it into the house (especially when lights are on in the house). The doors to the side porch have screen panels that you can slide over to cover the door. As long as the screen panels are fully in place, it's OK to keep these doors open at night. TV: The cabin has a large smart TV in the main living room with DirecTV and a wide variety of channels, including HBO, Prime, and Netflix. There's also a smart TV in the downstairs Master Bedroom. Bluetooth Speaker: There is a large speaker in the living room that can be rolled around as needed to amplify music or to connect with the television for a surround sound effect. Please be cognizant of the upstream neighbors by limiting the use of the speaker in the cabin interior. CAMERA: We do have two EXTERIOR cameras, one is pointed UPSTREAM at the river behind the cabin to record movement near the river as that is private property adjoining the National Forest. We also have a camera on the driveway to alert us to deliveries or service contractors. SOUNDS: Although you can't see them, we have one neighbor upstream and uphill to the left. In fact, their property line is just off the wood deck. While their home is located much higher than ours, they can often hear the loud conversation that is not intended for them, so keep that in mind. Also, we do request noise be kept to a minimum after 9 pm on weekdays and 10 pm on weekends as our neighbor is an important local physician and we need him to be well-rested! THE NATIONAL FOREST: There is room to enjoy the riverbank on our property DOWNSTREAM from the cabin. Upstream, just a foot off our deck is posted private property, though just 50 ft. beyond that is the National Forest that we have accessed directly for years. Now, however, the landowner of this narrow strip of property between us and the National Forest has asked us to prohibit guests from crossing their property. The stated reason is fear of legal liability should anyone be injured on their property. We, therefore, request that our guests not venture Upstream from our structure. Access to the river however is easy behind the cabin and downstream. In fact, the entire Highlands area is rich in hiking trails, river access locations, and trails to beautiful waterfalls, lakes, and mountain tops. There are also many ways to access the huge National Forest. It is the perfect location for a family-friendly, adventurous vacation emerged in nature. There are hiking gear shops in both Highlands and Franklin that can provide all needed gear and info (maps, books, etc ). A note of caution: nature does have risks, such as slippery rocks, rushing rivers, poisonous plants, some snakes, and stinging insects. Make sure you become acquainted with all hazards, always carefully supervise children, and look for signs of trouble. The hiking shops can help in providing information about such hazards. FISHING: The cabin is a fly fisherman's dream as you can fly fish in the river behind the cabin, or downstream. There are some fishing poles and lures in the cabin, although you should bring plenty of your own supplies (hooks, lures, etc). TRASH AND RECYCLING: There are 2 large brown trash receptacles in the cabin. Trash service does not pick up at the house, so there are no garbage cans outside. If you need to dispose of the trash before housekeeping arrives at the end of your visit, please take the bags to the Collection Center (2076 Highlands Road, Franklin) which is on Highway 64 (on the right as you head towards Franklin, about 6 miles from the cabin.) HONOR BARS: For your convenience, we have stocked the cabin with cold beverages, wines, snacks, frozen pizzas, etc. We try to keep this stocked up as a convenience to our VIP guests. We only ask that you replace whatever you use as a courtesy to the next guest. We are not seeking to profit from this service. If you prefer not to shop for replacements, you might consider leaving a donation to cover replacement costs and a generous tip to our housekeeper to do the shopping for you. BEFORE YOU LEAVE: Please make sure all doors and windows are closed. HOUSEKEEPING: Bettina Seay is your local co-host and housekeeper. Her cell is 813.679.8688. Please text Bettina when you checkout at the end of your stay so she can start the housekeeping, and if possible, start the sheets and towels. And if you need daily cleaning service or shopping prior to or during your visit, just reach out to her! Have a wonderful time on the river!
