Quirky and Unusual Basement Studios in Central London

History of the space For 35 years, the space was an analogue photo processing lab until in 2021, we renovated and transformed it with lighting, artwork, and furnishings to create 5 themed studios. Neighborhood Our space is surrounded by an eclectic mix of parks, restaurants, and shops. Just a stone's throw away along a picturesque cobbled street is Columbia Road, home to the famous flower market and many delightful indie shops and eateries. Bustling Shoreditch with its bars and restaurants is just a 5 minute stroll away too. Art lovers will also find various galleries in the local area. Logistics The area is very well-served for pubic transport, with Hoxton overground station just a 5 minute walk away and many buses stopping along Hackney Road. Liverpool Street station is also short distance away. The main entrance is on street level via Hackney Road, with a small reception area leading to stairs down into the basement, where you find the cloakroom and the door into the main space. The layout is a long corridor with 5 rooms leading off of it, each one themed differently. At the end of the corridor you find the kitchenette and lounge area, along with the walk-in shower (there is a separate single WC). Through the kitchen doors lead outside into the car park at the back of the unit, which is handy for heavy loading of gear into the venue by your crew if that is needed. Please contact us to let us know if you require access to the car park. The space is designed for you to immerse yourselves in, by removing outdoor shoes and feeling the (artificial) grass beneath your feet. It is a space for standing, moving around or lounging 0 not for traditional dining or sitting in chairs at tables. Information about past bookings We have hosted birthday parties, Mad Hatter's Tea Parties, dream workshops, and spoken word events, as well as various fun and glamorous photo shoots.
