About the Space

SUM SUM offers a creative space focusing on photography, film and content production and a rental studio supporting creatives, youth, womxn and people of color. The space is ideal for video shoots and photoshoots, filming interviews, product videos, headshots, teams, groups, e-commerce, product photography, portraits, lifestyle, retail, fashion, modeling, etc. The layout of the space has a 15 foot high and 13 foot wide white cyclorama wall. The working space can be rearranged to the artists' intention given permission prior to the booking. The space is equipped with the house grip package, light stands, sandbags, photography strobe kit, mirror, water/seltzer in the mini fridge, electrical power cables / extension cables, wardrobe rack, table, WiFi and more. There is a loading/freight elevator as well as a passenger elevator. There is a bathroom in the building with given code.

Exposure: 15' of SE light via three windows facing west; 8' of natural skylight on ceiling near front half of studio.

Space is not soundproof

Ambient noise description

Sound: The space is not a sound stage. The train, general city noise, rain on the roof, etc is all expected. You can hear the neighbors (sometimes) and we are on a busy street right off of the freeway. There is noise from the HVAC system but we can control the fan.

Equipment loading description

Loading: Street level access with garage doors at dock height directly open to sidewalk on Water Avenue; garage door access has dedicated 20' load zone (used for studio loading) with freight elevator. Loading trucks do need to be moved eventually. The entrance does require a ramp if that is what you prefer to unload from but there is no current ramp at the building. ADA Access: Elevators: located inside building once through entrance (permitted for studio loading as well).

No staging area available

Some rooms are off-limits for shooting

The area off-limits to the renter is the second half of the studio space by the large windows which are personal computer desks, equipment, etc. Please do not go beyond. This area is entirely off limits.

Shooting the exterior of the building is allowed

Electrical system description

The outlets are along the walls (4 total). Breaker is to the right of the cyclorama wall.

Circuit breaker can be accessed

General Rules

— No smoking in the studio space or building — Outside food/beverage/catering is allowed — No dirty shoes on the cyclorama floor/wall — There's a 15 minute grace period to vacate the space. Example: If your booking ends at 5pm, the space must be cleaned and empty by 5:15pm. — Please do not step on the very back of the cyclorama wall or it will get damaged. If this gets damaged, it is a damage fee of $500. Thank you!

All ages are allowed in the space

Production insurance is required

Please have a copy of your general liability insurance certificate for your production.

Furniture and decorations may be moved

Anything in the working space (first half of the studio space) can be moved around (with permission of the host). Wall decorations can also be removed. The walls and cyclorama can be painted (with permission prior by owner)

Smoke machines are allowed

Nudity is allowed

Security cameras and recording devices

There is a security camera at all of the entrances on the West and South side of the building. It records video and audio and still images. They will be on, they are part of the building. There are also active and recording security cameras inside of the photo/video studio space.

Recording devices in bathrooms or dressing rooms are prohibited by the Peerspace Services Agreement.

Enhanced Health and Safety Measures

We have a detailed and thorough cleaning session between each booking and make sure to disinfect all shared and common areas.

Enhanced cleaning measures:

The space is cleaned and disinfected in accordance with guidelines from local health authorities
High touch surfaces and shared amenities have been disinfected
Bookings are spaced apart to allow for enhanced cleaning
Soft, porous materials have been properly cleaned or removed

All hosts are required to do the following prior to each booking:

Sweep, mop, vacuum and clean the space.
Supply a hand washing station with soap, warm water, and paper towels or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Clean common areas allowing guest access including bathrooms, kitchens, and entrances.
Collect and clean dishes, silverware, and other provided host amenities, if applicable.
Remove garbage and add new lining to cans.

The following equipment is provided for every guest:

Disinfecting wipes or spray and paper towels
Disposable masks / face coverings
Hand Sanitizer

The space has the following features:

Great space for our video shoot! The freight elevator made it easy to haul gear up to the studio, and the studio manager was super helpful and friendly. The space worked well for our two-camera setup with single talent on set and a couple of crew members.
