If you're not, jump onboard and see how we used to do it! The basement house gathering was a DC fixture--Friday and Saturday nights we were jammed in someone's basement with great music, friends, dancing, maybe a table piled high with soul food and definitely a lot of heat. Doctors, barbers, NBA players, high school principles, hairstylists, cooks, government workers, jazz or gogo musicians--it didn't matter what you did, on weekend nights you were dancing, playing spades, watching movies, and just having a good time with great music. The space is actually an old skool beauty salon, DC-style. "Cynthia's Place" was the spot for whatever you needed--Blow dry and curl, wet set, relaxers, finger waves, cornrows, color--everyone left her space looking DC-fly. Cynthia is your host AND the proprietor of Cynthia's Place, and every now and again she can be talked into working her magic on the tresses of DC's finest ladies. The wall mural was painted in 1998 by a local artist and Howard University alum--one of the few remaining cultural memorials of a time when DC's hair salons were tucked away in basements: you only knew when you saw beautiful ladies with curlers in their hair standing in the front yard, a community of women waiting their chance to get back in the chair to finish up before heading back out into the city, looking fit, fly, and fabulous. Now, Cynthia's Place can host your old skool house gathering with tables set up for spades, dominoes, chess or whatever you like. The stereo system will play all the Chuck Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson or Sam Cooke you need to get your groove on and reminisce in how it used to be back in the day, but with all the 2022 updates you need. Flipping on the old tv as-big-as-a-dresser was a staple in house gathering back then; today, just use wifi to connect your phone or computer to our movie projector and sit back and enjoy whatever Netflix is up to. You'll also have a 50" TV if that's your style. Renters can use the front yard for relaxing with friends on nice days, grilling food, & listening to music. You can also use the back yard for parking or an additional space. I can provide chairs, tables, tents, and etc. upon request. The house can be used any way you would like. The salon has a 50" TV, 2 hooded hair dryers, barber's chair, salon station, shampoo bowl and chair, futon sofa/bed, large wall mirror, beautiful mural on the wall, and square wooden table with 4 stools. -Adjacent the hair salon, you have a room with a kitchenette, an 8 foot table for food, a four foot table to eat at or play board games, and a bed that can seat 4 people. -Outside the room there is a full sized refrigerator and a washer/dryer along with a full bathroom with a Jet tub. Special features: -The space has a old records from back in the day and a 70's style, red record player to play the records. -Exposed original bricks -Very convenient to all sorts of restaurants, carryout, bars, shopping, you name it... it's here!

Maya E. booked an interview video shoot for 5 people
One of my best Peerspace experiences to date! Cynthia was a pleasure to work with - she was extremely responsive, helpful, and accommodating. The next-door neighbor started doing construction midway through taping, and Cynthia went out of her way to get them to hold off until we were finished recording. I am truly appreciative of that. Cynthia also made Wifi access and printer access a breeze. She even set out snacks & iced drinks for the film crew! The space was also fantastic - clean, gorgeous, lots of natural light. Perfect for my small interview shoot. I highly recommend this Peerspace. I will definitely book again.
