Only the dining room and living room are available for booking. This 1,100 sq. foot condo is located in Sand Point, Seattle. The owners were drawn to the mid-century charm, generous hosting space, beautiful natural environment, and quiet corner of this 1974 one-bedroom condo. The main aim was to create an open, calming and reflective space that would promote personal tranquility and while also being well outfitted to host guests. With the dining room situated between the kitchen and living room, the owners were interested in grounding the dining space in a way that made it obviously separate without compromising the natural flow through the spaces. They accomplished this by installing an immersive, dark and moody wallpaper mural from artist Jan Brueghel’s painting “Latona and the Lycian Peasants”, framing off the edge that shares a wall to the living room with vertically-installed baseboard. The dining room also houses an Asian-inspired buffet, a deep walnut mid-century 8-person dining table with a black steel LED light bar hanging overhead to bring a subtle modernity to the space. A few steps down brings you into to the living room where a balance between warm and cool elements create an organic harmony of understated neutrals and simplicity. The use of low light and a subtle color palette create a warm and inviting space. In addition to the earthy color pallet, asymmetric and organic shapes were chosen due to their strong yet soft forms, such as the celestial-shaped concrete coffee table with a curvy top and midcentury conical legs. A faux olive tree settled in a circular cement planter brings an organic energy to the space with up-lighting creating additional ambience. Ample space around the furniture allows the room to breathe, with accessories kept to a minimum to bring peace and calm. A pair of handcrafted wicker armchairs sit in front of the windows, and are regularly turned around to face the view of a weeping willow tree in the back yard, where the back patio is left empty in order to optimize the view. The entire home is a gallery of art and items they’ve collected over the years: a pair of original Pablo Picasso first-edition lithographs, a pottery vessel from 700 BC Greco-Italy, a replica of the Louvre’s “Winged Victory of Samothrace” sculpture, vintage Seattle opera prints, and other work from local artists. This mid-century modern home is a haven of simplicity and art, bringing a natural warmth and ease to those who enter.
