Why did they film “Holey Moley” on Sable Ranch?

Sable Ranch is a go-to spot for many Hollywood productions, probably in part because it’s so easy to get to! The ranch is only 30 minutes outside of Hollywood and still within Los Angeles County.

And it’s also got tons of amenities that make it alluring to filmmakers! According to the Sable Ranch website, they offer 400 acres for filming, a vintage two-story ranch house, a big red barn, hacienda, corrals, and more! For filming Holey Moley, the crew also took advantage of the several in-ground tanks for scenes involving water.

Sable Ranch is home to many shows you’ve watched, not just Holey Moley! “The A-Team,” “24,” and “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” were all filmed here, too. But the ranch looks a lot different than when Mel Brooks filmed “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” there. According to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal Newspaper, the Sand Fire in 2016 destroyed stables, stone accessory buildings, and a century-old adobe hacienda on the ranch. Luckily, the ranch was able to rebuild and reopen — and that’s why they can film “Holey Moley” there today!

Why does everyone on Holey Moley look so cold?

Now that you know “Holey Moley” is filmed in the warm, sunny state of California, you might be wondering — why does everyone on set look so cold?? I mean just look at all these contestants bundled up before jumping in the water! You can see contestants quickly running to the hot tub after their dives and Rob Riggle’s is wearing a turtleneck!

The color of the sky in this clip should give you a pretty good hint as to why it’s so cold, though! The show mainly films at night! “We are out there from 8:00, 7:30 at night, until 5:00 in the morning while the competition is taking place live,” host Joe Tessitore told Decider. So while contestants may look like they’re golfing in the Alaskan tundra, it’s just California’s brisk nighttime weather that’s got everyone all bundled up!
