The mansion was built by its namesake, Andrew Freedman, in the 1920s to act as a comfortable retirement home for elderly individuals who had lost their former fortunes. Today, it serves a totally different purpose, but is nevertheless highly community oriented: it is an official New York City Designated Landmark and functions as a neighborhood hub for community services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
