A bank robbery, a conversation with a teller, or a big withdrawal moment for the rich lawyer all require a bank location for a film shoot. Like hospitals and prisons, there's something about an authentic bank that immerses viewers and sells the moment to the audience. Dallas-based bank filming locations come in a variety of sizes. Some are sets customized to look like a bank that only have a few rooms. An entryway with counters for tellers, a vault, and meeting room are enough for many films. For a larger bank you'll need a bigger set, with multiple counters. You can even rent space in an actual, functional bank, if nothing less will do for your movie!

The best set for a bank scene is going to be an actual bank, of course. As you might expect, it's not so simple as showing up with your cameras and recording, however. You'll need to secure permission with the bank by contacting their PR department (assuming they have one) or management. Larger banks have such departments but are harder for indie productions to get permission for unless your budget is large and your credentials are excellent.

You also may need to contact the local police department to have a cop on set. That way, there's no way anyone mistakes your filming as an actual bank heist.

Given the legal hurdles of filming in an actual bank, most filmmakers prefer creating a set that looks like one. It's easy to do since counters, glass barriers, and other props are easy to find and set up. Even big budget blockbusters don't always use an actual bank. In The Dark Knight movie, the opening bank robbery scene was filmed at a Chicago Post Office, not a bank!
Film shoot locations designed to look like a bank are much easier to rent. You can reserve one by the hour, day, or week. And you can be up and running by the next day, if there's space. Since there's no actual money to protect you aren't renting a cop or signing legal documents as you would with a real bank. Bank film sets are also better acoustic environments, with sound dampening built into them to keep outside sounds from intruding. The lighting environment will also be better since the primary purpose of the set is filmmaking.
