Frequently Asked Questions

Pricing information in this section is based on proprietary data from bookings made on Peerspace from 2016 to 2025.

How much does a performance space cost to hire?

Performance spaces average £217 per hour to rent, but it’s easy to spend less or more depending on what you’re looking for. For a space on the smaller side, expect to spend closer to £96, whereas larger venues run about £333 per hour.

How to set up audio for a live performance

Live sound system design is a rich and complex skill set, and a lot will be determined by whichever stellar live performance venue you've chosen, as well as what equipment they already have. If they already have a PA system and a soundboard, the odds are good their staff will be able to help you set up your audio. If not, you may need to rent audio equipment. If you know the coverage needs of your performance (like the rough square footage of the venue), you can use that to select speakers that are loud enough. You may also opt to use a speaker processor. This equipment will interface with a mixer, which is also where you'll run your inputs. If you're playing in a smaller venue and using live music, you can likely get away with using the everyday amplifiers the musicians themselves typically already own.

How to film a live performance

Filming a live performance can be difficult, especially if lighting conditions are tricky. When the room is dark, but lighting conditions are changing rapidly (which is often the case with very active lighting during concerts), videographers need to rely on their skills shooting manually. Auto white balance will cause abrupt color shifts. You may run into "banding" depending on the type of lighting used, so you'll need to experiment and adjust your shutter speed to minimize this effect. Use rehearsal or sound-check time to test and adjust your settings. If your incredible performance venue has a professional sound system, talk to the engineer about getting a copy of the stage audio that you can layer over your video later—that way, you'll have great-sounding audio without having to rely on your camera's built-in microphone.

Where to find performance venue rentals

Peerspace has listings for performance venues of all kinds. Epic rock shows, beautiful dance performances, virtuoso piano recitals, and mind-blowing plays have all graced Peerspace performance venues across the globe. When you check out performance venue rentals in your area, you'll find everything from dedicated live music venues to raw warehouse spaces, art galleries, and hip bars—all sorts of venues, including ones you may not have ever thought of. You can narrow your results by equipment and amenities as well, which may include things like professional lighting and sound rigs. All of this saves money in a big way, and it can also avoid significant red tape involving city permits that may be required for live performances.
