This house was custom designed, built, and lived in by the architect until 2018. The original structure is from 1964 with a contemporary addition in 1973 and tasteful and cohesive updates in the 1990s and 2019. The exterior is extremely unique for a single family home with a brick facade, copper cornice, and glass entry on the unassuming front which expands back toward floor to ceiling windows facing a large back-yard space and view of mostly trees and some other custom homes. There are several unique aspects on the main floor including a spiral staircase from the 1960s in the entry, a gold patina copper hood wood burning fireplace built into the original (unpainted) brick wall in the living room, an original wood accordion door from the 1970s separating the kitchen and den, a powder room with original fixtures like a chrome sink and blue toilet, and a custom staircase between the living room and downstairs office that is clad in maple on the inside and walnut on the outside. The exterior back features a large deck with privacy wall held up by a custom retaining wall that frames a zen garden with several dwarf plant specimens. This garden is adjacent to the office which looks out onto the garden with huge windows. The upstairs includes 4 bedrooms. The master has creme carpet with a lane furniture set as well as a double vanity retro style bathroom. There is also a very large bedroom that was used as an art studio by the architect. Floor to ceiling windows facing the backyard frame this impressive space. All furniture throughout the house is curated to a 1950s-1980s modern feel including refurbished and original furniture from the era. There are also many new contemporary pieces and over 40 indoor plant specimens within the house. The house is easily accessible from interstate 94, route 41, interstate 294, Sheridan road, and sits on the west side of Green Bay Rd. very closeby to Ravinia Festival, Ravinia Business District and the Chicago Botanical Gardens.
