An restored historic factory space with modern amenities to support nearly any activation you can think of; poetry slam, yoga session, art exhibit, wedding reception, industry symposium, book club, foundation meeting, gallery show, pop-up shop, trivia night, DJ sessions, comedy club, photo studio, dinner party, community meetup, crafting workshop, dance class, awards ceremony, chess tournament, music performance, networking mixer, science fair, film festival, something else... The center of the building connects tenants and community guests. Entry through the front retail, the space has a view into the fabrication shop and is separated from the architecture studio. Most weekdays, the building is active with moderate noise from the industrious activities of making, designing, and creating. We can request quiet hours for specific blocks of time during a performance or presentation; otherwise, we imagine the rental is part of the building's active experience. The original wood roof is exposed for a beautiful material finish and provides 14' of height, along with a north-facing clerestory window for daylight through the center of the space. The historic deco-style building provides statement curb appeal as guests arrive, and the building's character continues to shine in the interiors, with original factory windows, painted brick walls, and an exposed steel structure. A rear loading dock and overhead door make load-in and setup easy for decor and furniture rentals. Free on-street parking and the private lot add to the ease of arrival for guests. Vander comes from the Dutch surname preposition “van der,” meaning “from/of the.” Records were frequently misrecorded and evolved into Vander, including when the founder’s family immigrated to the US. The concept of craft and ideas from the community and building made sense as a naming strategy. We're proud to be in the community, providing space to gather and create.
