Parking on Johnson Ave after 7pm and all day on weekends. Parking on the cross streets, Varick or Stewart, All day every day except where posted.

The studio gets good light from two side windows and a skylight. The Windows face west so in the afternoon the studio gets washed with direct sunlight on sunny days. The studio takes less than a minute to block out all natural light. There is an automatic shutter that can be rolled over the skylight and there are prebuilt boxes that can cover the two windows.

We’ve had many sound shoots here and they have all been successful. The studio is not sound proof but it has been sound treated. The windows face a courtyard, not the street, so that cuts down on noise considerably. The windows have also been boxed in plexiglass to make then even quieter. The studio walls were built the double sheetrock and the door is weather sealed. Since it is in the city I recommend using a lave mic at least as a backup so your covered in case of the random truck backfiring or low flying jet.

Stairs, Freight Elevator

The fastest way in is through the frond door and up one wide set of stairs. For more extensive load-ins there is a freight elevator that is accessed from Randolph st which runs behind the building. The freight is old and on occasion is closed for maintenance. (this is rare) Please try and let us know ahead of time if you think you will need it.

We have two 20amp outlets and the rest are 15amps. EQ up to 1500watts is fine but check with me for anything with a higher power draw.

!!PLEASE DON’T ARRIVE EARLY!! The studio might be occupied by someone else or getting reset for your session or we may be taking a break and you won’t be able to get in till the start of your session time. There’s no waiting area in the building. Please don’t ring the bell Before the start time of your session. If you or someone from your crew does arrive early there is a great coffee shop called "Caffe’ Vita" just 1 block away @ 576 Johnson Ave. When it is time for your rental to start you can buzz #9 or call me from down stairs and I will buzz you in. The studio is on the second floor. The cyc wall and floor is painted white and is repainted about once every other week but It does get scuffed through normal wear and tear and may have marks on it when you show up. (these usually won’t show up in your photo's) If you need the cyc in close to perfect condition we can repaint the cyc floor in white the night before your session for a $30 painting fee. Please let us know 48 hours in advance if you'd like this service. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE IN YOUR GROUP KNOWS NOT TO STEP ON THE CURVED PART OF THE CYC WHERE THE FLOOR MEETS THE WALL. ALSO PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE BACK WALL OR SIDE WALL AS YOU WILL LEAVE MARKS. If you have to touch the walls or step on the curved part of the cyc and you leave marks (and you will leave marks) there is a $30 “re-painting fee" to do that. I know that’s a lot about the CYC. Sorry to go on about it, but everybody benefits from keeping the cyc in good shape and your help is appreciated! On a related subject, if it doesn’t have wheels please don’t drag it on the studio floor or cyc area. Any furniture or equipment that you need to move should be picked up, carried and placed. Please make sure that you return anything that you move to it’s original location before you leave. I no longer allow glitter in the studio unless you’ve made a specific arrangement with us ahead of time. (it takes a month to get rid of it) If I do agree to it there is a $50 deposit that you’ll get back if you don’t leave any glitter behind. Obviously there is no smoking allowed in the studio and if you plan on having any alcohol you have to clear that with me first and agree to reasonable restrictions. Also, please talk with me before doing anything with fire, liquids, paint, wind, confetti or smoke. We don’t allow outside smoke machines but have one you can rent in-house. If you have your kids with you please note that the studio is not kid proof. The studio is built for adult use so please take extreme care if you have any kids in your group and make sure that you have an eye on them and protect them at all times! You alone are responsible for their safety. It’s important that anyone operating any equipment, know what their doing. If you’re not sure about something please ask me before using it. I’m always happy to help out. Please leave the studio in the same condition you found it in. Return all furniture and equipment to is original location, throw away all trash and take all your things with you. If you leave a mess you may be charged a $30-$50 "studio reset" fee. Your rental time should include the time you need to wrap but I know that it doesn’t always work out that way. If you're running late I do allow a 15min grace period so you can finish wrapping up without going into overtime. Even if you are running late you can not keep shooting past your scheduled time without checking with me to see if overtime is available. If you think you’ll need extra time, make sure to let me know as early as possible. Overtime is billed at a rate of 1.5 x the standard hourly rate and prorated by the half hour. Please note that, in order to keep things on time and avoid keeping anyone waiting, we try to keep one hour free between bookings to allow for sessions that run over their time and to allow time to reset the studio. The minimum time we need between bookings is 30 mins. So……. If you are renting the studio you must agree to the following! "You" (the individual person renting the studio) are responsible for the studio and it's contents as well as the actions and safety of "Your Group” (including all the other people in the studio with you). "You" individually and personally assume all responsibility and all liability for any damage, theft or injuries, whether negligent or not and whether intentional or not, that occur during your scheduled time as a result of your actions or of the actions of anyone else in "Your Group". In renting the studio "You" promise to personally reimburse the studio for repair or replacement costs relating to the damage or loss of any studio property that occurs during your rental time. "You" hereby certify that studio equipment will only be operated by qualified studio technicians in a manner that is safe for everyone in the studio. All equipment must be operated with due care in a manor that does not exceed the capabilities of the studio or it's electrical system. Please take note of the condition and arrangement of the studio and it's contents when you arrive as "You" are responsible for returning the studio to the condition in which you found it and “You" agree to pay a "studio reset fee" of $30-$50 if you have not put the studio back in proper order by the time you leave. Finally "You" agree to ensure that you, "Your Group" and all of your property will be out of the studio by the end time of your session and "You" agree to pay any overtime fees that you incur as a result of staying in the studio past your rental period.
