I had a very pleasant experience working with Takashi. The space was perfect for our small corporate event. He was extremely helpful throughout the whole process and wood definitely recommend to others. If I am ever to host another event in NYC, I would do it here again.
This space used to be a bar called The Edge. I used to hang out there back in the 90's. Not much has changed as far as interior goes a couple of walls were knocked down but it's still cosy and nice. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the new owner. From the very first message I sent I made it clear that I was renting the place to have my 50th birthday party. While we were going back and forth with messages about the place and the event everything seemed pretty cool. I went to see the space before I booked it and I was told by someone who represented the owner that we could do pretty much everything that we wanted, they could move the tables and chairs for us, we could have live music if we wanted to, etc. I ended up renting the place from 5pm until 1am. On the event day I arrived in the space at 5.15 pm to find customers still sitting at the tables and waiting for their take out food. Takashi (the owner) was behind the bar washing dishes and we didn't have the place for ourselves until about 5.40pm. Meanwhile he managed to get into some kind of a word exchange with my girlfriend but I ignored that and didn't get involved. During the negotiations I was told by Takashi that we have to end with the noise by midnight. A couple of my friends wanted to play some music so they brought a synth and a bass and they played some jazz from about 10.40pm to 11.20pm or so (not a full band, no drums, guitars etc). The general noise level was nowhere near a regular NY bar but at 11.20pm Takashi showed up at the place as if something was wrong. From there everything went downhill. He asked for everything to be put in place as it was before the event even though I had asked for the tables and chairs to be moved when we arrived (they weren't, so I moved them). There was a small exhibit area by the bar and we asked if we can move it, just in case to prevent any accidental damage. He said that he was going to move and took pictures of it to remember how to reassemble it but at the end of the night he requested that we move and arrange it back to the way it was before. I moved the boxes back and let him deal with the exhibits but I really shouldn't have done even that. At the end of the day that was his way to get back at my girlfriend for whatever exchange they had earlier. What topped it for me was when he told me that there was no place where we can leave four garbage bags and we have to take them with us... Really? Take the garbage with us in a cab? Now, while I agree that we should not break anything (and we didn't) and we should leave the place like we found it (we did), I also believe that if you pay $1,100 for 8 hours you should expect at least to have the place by the agreed time, to have toilet paper in the bathroom and not a petty owner who clearly didn't want us to be there to begin with (strangely he accepted the payment within 5 minutes). Usually I don't write negative reviews, I just ignore them but in the countless times I've rented houses, apartments all over the world I have never encountered owners such as Takashi, totally disengaged and uninterested in making anything for me, the client, the one who pays the money. And lastly, Takashi, thanks for wishing me a happy birthday (he didn't).
Our event provided by Takashi was amazing. He was prompt on time, room provided was clean and well furnished. We had everything we needed to set up our baby shower. What an awesome time. Thank you!
