You are more than welcome to bring your own production equipment, in fact, we prefer you bring all your own gear for your production. - ABOUT THE BUILDING - Studio 63 is inside one of the last remaining live/work artist spaces in Downtown San Francisco's SOMA district. Over 100 years old, car parts were assembled in our studio. The building's owner was a well known SF photographer and philanthropist who knew the value of providing an affordable, creative space for artists to work and thrive. His passion to protect this building and each space inside has always been an inspiration to us to do the same within the artist community in San Francisco. - ABOUT THE SPACE - Hundreds of well known artists have used our space to bring their creative visions to life. We have a beautiful, 17 foot white brick wall that even has a small crack from the 1989 earthquake. We resurfaced the original floors when we acquired this space and added the artist loft and gear storage area. Approx. 500sq. ft. of private shooting space fit for any type of production. Please feel free to ask us any questions about the space. - ABOUT THE ARTISTS - We are three professional photographers, creative directors and producers who have been using this incredible space to shoot commercial and personal photographic work going into our 3rd year. We have hosted local bands, poets, artists, corporate team off-sites, networking events, movie nights, photography critiques and even individual birthday parties. We have produced photography out of this space for hundreds of brands and clients including some of the most well known editorial magazines in The Bay Area. We are open to your ideas and hope our space can provide you with budgetary flexibility and creative freedom to do your best work! - SERVICES AL A CARTE - If you have questions about production crews or need help sourcing additional help from professional creatives/artists, please let us know. We have a roster of preferred vendors/freelancers, so it's likely we can set you up with the right folks that can fit your budget + enhance your production experience/final execution. - TAGGED ON INSTAGRAM - Here is a link to view images tagged at our studio: https://goo.gl/VsCv8Q - AUDIO RECORDINGS - Be aware that our studio functions inside of a community of artists and creative professionals. Though it is mainly super chill throughout the building, at any given time, there could be ambient sounds/noise not suited for professional/commercial quality audio recording. Please understand up front that you might have difficulty capturing professional quality audio in our space.
Return the space and all items inside, exactly how you found it. No smoking. Pets are fine. 20 people maximum in the space. Alcohol and food is allowed. Put everything back where you found it, throw out any trash in the binds on the first floor. Always lock the studio even if you leave for coffee. If you spill something please clean/dry it up immediately. If you break something or gear malfunctions, please tell us immediately. If you have a bigger production or an event, you must have someone dedicated to watching the downstairs door. Do not leave it open for other in your group. Have them call you and then left them inside. When unloading or loading up gear for your production, never leave the front door open without someone on watch. Be respectful. Be kind. Do your best work possible. Message us about your production.
Incredibly accommodating and helpful studio. Plenty of space for a single still life set plus props/stylist area. Very pleased with responsiveness and flexibility, would definitely book again.
I did a 4-hour indoor photoshoot in this studio. Cliff was incredible to work with. He was super accommodating and went out of his way to ensure that the experience of renting his cute studio was smooth. The space was exactly as advertised and completely met my needs. Highly recommend renting from Cliff and using this space. It is one of the few places in SF that is so easy to use and is at an incredible price.
USE THIS SPACE!! The operator(s) of this space are fantastic to work with! I made an error in my scheduling, which was a HUGE deal because we brought a well known actress up from the LA area to do work with some local actors on a film. I freaked out when I discovered my mistake and the operator was able to work with us and, with some adjustments to the time slot, provide the space on the day we needed. Their customer service ROCKS!!
First things first: we're the reason that Cliff has added a note about the sound quality of the space. If you need absolute silence, I do not recommend it. Though it ended up working out for our purposes, there were periods where, due to noise, we couldn't film. That said, it's quiet enough most of the time, to the degree that we couldn't actually hear the music from the several bars most of the time. The space was more than big enough for our purposes, and Cliff and his fellow studio partners were extremely accommodating of our schedule and very flexible of our needs. Cliff was also very responsive to any inquiries, which I always really appreciate. We also employed one of the studio partners to help us with our initial set up, and he was very patient, knowledgeable, and instructional both on how to get the best lighting for our particular shoot and how to best use the space/equipment there. Since we were doing film and not still photography, we did bring our own lights, but they have ample stands/back drops/reflectors/etc.
