About the Space
St John Studios provides an unforgettable and uniquely Austin indoor/outdoor setting. High ceilings and vintage wood-clad walls make The Great Hall an inspiring central space for large dinners, alternative weddings, food, wine and spirit tastings, and gatherings and celebrations of all kinds. The Shed Bar frames another side of the Courtyard. This funky and magnetic rustic space has a live-edge bar and a large serving window that opens to a secluded back patio. In warm months you will almost always find a cool breeze. In cooler months we fire up the wood burning stove. A staging/catering area on one end of the Hall has its own service entrance and includes a refrigerator, ice maker, and a commercial 3-compartment sink. A converted warehouse designed with salvaged wood and steal, featuring high ceilings (23ft) concrete and wood floors, two bars (one interior, one open-air) a stage/loft and a large courtyard and patio with covered and open spaces available for productions. When my husband and I started searching for wedding venues, we knew that we wanted something in town (so our guests who were already traveling to Austin wouldn’t have to find a way to get to a venue 30 minutes out of town down a dirt road somewhere) and that we wouldn’t need the venue for 12+ hours like most weddings do. This was impossible to find in more traditional wedding venues, especially those that were budget-friendly, and we started to lose hope—but then we found St. John Studios. The space is beautiful and so cool; you can tell that Jody (the owner) has put a lot of work and intention into the space. It really feels like Austin, like hanging out at a brewery on a Saturday night, which we loved personally and so many people commented on during our wedding. The space is versatile and can be used in a variety of ways. We used the Great Hall for our ceremony and later for dancing (with our DJ in the loft), and the Courtyard for dinner and hanging out (with a food truck in the parking lot). We think that having the dancing and dinner/hang out spots right next to each other but separated really helped people to let loose on the dance floor without feeling like everyone was staring at them, which was a lot of fun. Jody and Cesar were so helpful and quick to respond to any questions/requests that we had, and also allowed us to tour the venue twice so we could get all our details figured out. I highly recommend using this space!

The location was beautiful and Jody was very accommodating. It didn't take much in terms of decorating to make the venue look perfect for our wedding. Having access to both indoor and outdoor spaces was fantastic, and I can't imagine having had our wedding anywhere else. 100% recommend. Thank you so much, Jody!

The venue was wonderful and exactly as pictured. I hosted a surprise birthday party for about 25 people and everyone loved and enjoyed the big space with various places to hang out. We did have difficulty with the speakers which wasn’t able to be resolved at the event so we could only listen to music in one room. Jody was responsive and flexible with communication. However at times the communication felt disrespectful and disorganized. There was also some miscommunication about extra things we paid to add on which didn’t meet expectations. As a whole the space was really great and perfect for a party or gathering. I would just recommend more communication around expectations for anything you might need for your event as they “admittedly are not very business-minded in operating these rentals.” If you are just looking for a neat, old Austin, space to enjoy then this rental is perfect!

This is a "quintessentially Austin" venue. We held a welcome event for my son's wedding weekend here and it was a huge success. The St. John Studios people were responsive, helpful, and a joy to work with. The space is exactly as advertised and is perfect for indoor/outdoor gatherings. I highly recommend it.

I booked the venue for a student organization celebration. Jody scheduled a tour with me beforehand, and the space is exactly as pictured. He was very helpful with the planning process and made sure we had everything we needed for the event. Everyone in attendance loved the venue, we highly recommend booking!

This has been long overdue from my end! The venue was a gem hidden right in the middle of Austin :) A beautiful mix of rustic indoor and outdoor space with plenty of options to configure as you see fit! We had a retro themed party for my husband's 40th and everyone loved the venue (including the kids - which is saying something!). Jody was super helpful and quite flexible as most of our plans were quite fluid. Sean was amazing - he was there to help us out throughout the event! Couldn't thank them enough for making this special for us!
