Overview: The Atelier occupies the top floor of a one-of-a-kind bell tower in a refurbished late-1800’s factory in downtown Port Chester, NY. The space has striking views in every direction for miles, exposed brick, massive wooden rafters, original hardwood floors, and a flood of natural light from sunrise to sunset. We have multiple adjacent spaces available within the full venue, so if the Atelier isn’t right for you, or if you need more space, please explore our other listings. You’re welcome to book more than one space at a time to utilize the full scope of the tower. Let us know if you want help deciding how to best utilize the space, or if you’d like to visit before booking. Also available to rent is a selection of props, seating, risers, A/V, art supplies/easels, decor, and other tools to help streamline your booking. More About the Space: Versatility is The Atelier’s middle name. It’s a flexible, open space that can be used for just about anything. Bring your ideas, and we can make it happen! The space can be setup many different ways, so if there's something in the space you want, or don't want, please let us know and we can accommodate. The space is roughly 550 sq. ft and includes a full bathroom/changing room, a utility sink, and 12 oversized windows creating a 360 degree view. There’s an exterior door that can be opened for additional ventilation and light, although access to the adjoining rooftop is prohibited. The centerpiece of The Atelier is the monumental wooden rafters in the peak of the tower. Once used to support the weight of a bell for signaling shift changes in the factory’s distant past. The ceiling height is 10 feet at the rafters and extends beyond 25 feet at the peak. All four exterior walls have windows with views of downtown Port Chester, the hills of the Lower Hudson Valley, and Connecticut’s Gold Coast. The sunsets never get old. If you’re using the space in the evening, we have vintage stage lights in the rafters that cast warm ambient light, providing an inviting atmosphere even after the sun goes down. Getting Here: The Atelier is on the top floor of our venue and is isolated from other areas by a private staircase. Although it lacks a door, the space is not visible from below, and is very private. The main entrance to the full venue is on the fourth floor of the factory, accessible by either a freight elevator or stairs. From there, The Atelier is up two flights of stairs inside the venue. The space is not wheelchair accessible. If your booking requires use of the freight elevator, we will provide training for operation. We can also provide an elevator attendant for an additional fee if your booking involves frequent use of the freight elevator for passengers. We hope to help you find the right balance of space and privacy, and are willing to shape the space to fit your needs, however big or small. We prioritize access to this space, providing resources to artists and creatives in any capacity we can. We function as a collaborative artists’ studio and community arts center, offering flexible rental options designed to meet diverse budgets and needs. To keep costs down for our renters who aren’t using the full space, every so often we host parallel bookings. For example, if someone is booking the top floor, coworking spaces on the lower levels might still be available to others. Leaving the door open for more than one use allows smaller productions and up-and-coming artists the opportunity to use this space, too. If you prefer more privacy without renting the entire venue, you can opt for the Exclusivity Add-On. This ensures that only your group and our on-site manager are present, without extending access beyond your reserved spaces. Location: We're surrounded by an energetic neighborhood of shops, restaurants, and performance venues in downtown Port Chester, NY— walking distance to the waterfront. The views outside the windows are just as beautiful as the architecture inside, directly overlooking some of the village’s stunning historic architecture, including St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, the PC Fire Dept. Headquarters, and the Capitol Theatre. There’s even a sliver of Long Island and The Sound to be seen in the distance. The venue is just steps from the Port Chester MNR Station and Main Street Port Chester. The rest of the factory building houses a variety of artists studios, shops, fitness centers, and cultural institutions. We’re a very short walk from Michaels, AMC, Stop and Shop, and Costco, as well as an endless supply of restaurants within walking distance including: Bartaco, Saltaire, The Kneaded Bread, Panka, Inca and Gaucho, and a dozen or so grocery stores and delis. Within a 5 minute drive from Home Depot, Whole Foods, Target, and multiple shopping centers— and 10-15 minutes from Wegmans, The Westchester mall, SUNY Purchase, downtown Greenwich and Greenwich Avenue, as well as a handful of local parks and beaches. History of the Venue: The building itself was constructed over 100 years ago as a factory for manufacturing t-shirts, bedding, and undergarments most notably for Fruit of the Loom. The bell tower signaled shift changes for the workers, and provided ventilation to the factory. In the early 2000’s, an architecture firm refurbished the tower, transforming it into their personal studio space, a meticulously designed workshop built for creatives. Since then, the space has been handed down from one architect to another. Now, we’re channeling that creative energy into a community arts space— open to the public after its entire life behind closed doors. Contact Us If you have any questions about the space, please reach out.
