Small Idyllic Scandinavian Cabin in a Forest Located in Heart of Columbia River Gorge

ABOUT THE PLACE My space is the quintessential PNW paradise! As a visual artist, I wanted to curate a living space that reconnected me to nature and as a retreat away from the noise and busyness of the world, which has brought much peace & inspiration to my life & work. Both the house and its natural forest setting are ideal for film/photo-shoots, creative meetings, day retreats, or an idyllic & inspirational escape from the city. My house is a small cabin, inspired by Scandinavian hygge design hinted with Japanese tea culture. The interior space is about 450 square feet, which includes a loft where I sleep. Think "tiny house" but more spacious, high ceilings, & lots of natural light. The design aesthetic was modeled after a smaller tiny home that I used to own, which was featured in Dwell Magazine. The outside features black Yakisugi/Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood) siding, a wrap-around deck and a 4ft covered porch with two Adirondacks that face the Columbia River & the Oregon side of the Cascade Range. I also have four Adirondacks circled around a fire-pit next to a wooden picnic table surrounded by string lights. The entire space is surrounded by a "cathedral" of tall Douglas firs that make you feel like you're deep in the woods even though you're within the city limits. There are also two families of black-tail deer that hang around almost every day. I am on a sparsely populated road with a handful of surrounding neighbors. You can see their houses a few hundred feet away through the trees. It is relatively quiet with minimal traffic noise and the occasional rumbling of a distant train. CAPACITY Indoor seating maxes out at 6. There is no indoor dining table, only a bar that seats 2. Outdoor can seat 6-12 (6 Adirondacks + 6 at the picnic table). LOCATION Located in Stevenson, WA in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just 45 minutes from Portland/PDX. The Skamania County Fairgrounds/Rock Creek Cove & Park are a quarter of a mile away. The local grocery store and Main Street are less than a mile away. Skamania Lodge is one mile away. And The Bridge of the Gods + Interstate 84 is a 5 minute drive. Stevenson is a small river town of about 1600 and features multiple breweries, restaurants & the best taco truck in the PNW. It also has a nice little waterfront park. Surrounding towns include Cascade Locks & Carson, with White Salmon & Hood River just 30 minutes away. The Columbia River Gorge is a National Scenic Area which features natural tourist attractions (hikes, waterfalls, mountains, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, etc) in every direction. I am happy to give recommendations. AMENITIES - Full kitchen (though compact) featuring 2-top induction stove, a small smart oven, and a live-edge bar table that seats two. No microwave or dishwasher. - 3/4 bathroom that feels like a Japanese spa. Spacious walk-in rainfall shower but no soaking tub. - outdoor shower (for the more adventurous) - Traeger wood-pellet grill - Living Room also serves as a home cinema featuring 4K projection & Sonos 5.1 Surround sound - WiFi (5G speed) - desk (located in living room space) - small wood-burning stove - Mini-Split for AC/Heating - all-in-one combo washer/dryer (please request if needed) - fire-pit (unless burn ban in place) - Hue smart lighting system both inside & outdoors LOFT SPACE There is a permanent wooden ladder that goes up the the Loft, which is open-air. The Loft can be used for storage but the bed is off limits. PARKING You can fit 3-4 cars near the house in the gravel driveway. More cars can be parked along the driveway but you'll start blocking in vehicles. My neighbor can accommodate a couple of extra cars, too. There is also free public parking down the road at the Fairgrounds/Park/Community Center, 0.2 miles away (down a semi-steep hill). There is no wheelchair access ramp. ACCESS/HOSTING Most of the time, I will be around to welcome you & show you around. Then I will leave the space all to yourself. I do travel quite often, so will not always be present. I will give you access codes for both the security system and smart door lock, as well as detailed instructions on everything else. PAST BOOKINGS My home has been used for video/photoshoots on two different occasions, both home-design related companies. It has also been featured by multiple cabin/home-design accounts on Instagram. THIS IS MY HOME. AND YOU'RE VERY WELCOME HERE! Please, note that this is my primary residence and home. While very clean, it will not be free of my personal belongings, most of which will be stored away. No overnight stays allowed.
