About the Space

This listing is specifically for very small productions that need 1 or 2 rooms or the gardens for creative works (portraiture photography, product photo shoots, indie productions, etc.). Smaller projects have a different production footprint and pricing is reflective of this lighter use. If your production requires the entire house, please use this booking link: https://www.peerspace.com/pages/listings/66a40990a28bdcb9d7058e4a If you are interested in booking an evening event, please use this link: https://www.peerspace.com/pages/listings/66ddf3ce71bcfe6b6d0d505e If you're somewhere in the middle of these, please send us a message to book and we will figure it out together. The Cook House is a mansion built by a lumber baron in 1892 to impress and entertain. It has hosted exciting events, movie productions, music videos, and been the backdrop for countless photo shoots for over 130 years. Before making a name on Instagram as The Walter, and before exuberant holiday displays led locals to call it The Christmas House, and well before rumors circulated that Walt Disney owned the property to be near his brother and parents when in Portland, The Cook House was a pinnacle for fabulous parties. Your production can be a part of something extraordinary. It’s not just the beauty and size of The Cook House that makes it great , it’s the spaces and the flow. The main level has a huge foyer that acts like air traffic control. The giant pocket doors from the foyer to the dining room act like a movable wall. The wide staircases and front door are ideal for loading and unloading production equipment. Want a classy backdrop for taking photos or holding an interview? Stunning gas fireplaces are in both the living room and dining room/music parlor. There are 4 additional fireplaces all with a completely different look to provide variety. Within the kitchen, the white marble counters, antique french farm table, and lots of natural light offer a great backdrop for posting chef worthy content. Don’t be fooled by the beauty of the kitchen, it’s a commercial powerhouse! The high BTU stove has 6 burners, a flat top griddle, and 2 full-sized convection ovens with broilers. The residential looking dishwasher is actually commercial grade and cleans a full load of plates in just 17 minutes, and a load of glasses in under 10! During warmer months the two story neoclassical columns and English style garden make the porch and front lawn feel magical. A curved stone staircase off the porch is wonderful for portraits featuring gowns with elaborate skirts and trains. The house has seen many great configurations. Onsite furnishings can be used to support a variety of uses. The 10’ antique library table is a head turner. Other tables available are: square with 4 leaves (48”x 52” - 100”), oval with 2 leaves (43”x 60” - 84”), and 2 small folding tables. We have 5 different dining style chair sets for configurations for 2-6 seats. Soft seating varies upon configuration and season with multiple sofas, settees, and arm chairs.
