Desert Wild was built from the ground up with balance and contrast driving the creative process, but always keeping the magic of the Mojave Desert in mind. By contrasting old world materials and techniques, such as tadelakt and 100 year old Turkish sinks, with cutting edge materials, such as Topciment, a balance was achieved that feels warm and inviting. The artistry of the different trades was vital in achieving what the designer was trying to bring to life. From local artists to apply the tadelakt and build the cabinetry and furniture, to specialists flown in from France to complete the Topciment floors and kitchen counters, this was truly a labor of love. Inspiration came from travels around the world and the US, specifically Morocco, Greece, Spain and New Mexico. Georgia O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch in New Mexico was of particular importance and helped inspire the Zen-like simplicity of the design. Contrasting feminine and masculine lines was given particular importance, most obvious at the entrance of the home. The desert landscape creates a stark background so the color palette is warm, neutral and simple that changes with the colors of the desert throughout the day. This helps to achieve a very calming and magical vibe that compliments the mysterious and beautiful Joshua Tree area. We are opening Desert Wild for photoshoots. We are located on 1.25 acres and we do have neighbors.
