Welcome to the Grotto! Your adventure begins from the moment you step across the threshold. This 1,000+ square foot space comprises multiple light- and sound-scapes for myriad adventures, beginning with the colorful "Tetris Room," a thoughtfully-appointed kitchen, living, and dining area with clean lines and a contemporary appeal that still feels cozy and inviting. Here and throughout the Grotto, it's the many finishing touches that carry the day, and they are further accented by the customizable lighting from ceiling to floor and everywhere in between. Tetris Room The kitchen, dining, and seating areas are set against the backdrop of a handcrafted "Tetris" wall: a cross-section of wood blocks that interweave an artful pattern AND serve as a high-tech playground for your favorite felines. Smartly concealed within the Tetris wall is an entrance and exit for cats to explore their inner-kittens. Kitties will love the actual catwalk that encircles the perimeter of the ceiling, coaxing the cats to find the hidden in-and-out spaces of the room. Customizable color-shifts in lighting, with infinite possibilities for choosing the color and intensity of light along the ceiling, floor, and central oculus fixture (with our included iPad), give you complete control to set the scene. And yet, while this room is a marvel of imagination, it pales in comparison to the rooms beyond the secret door. Mine Shaft/Tunnel & Miner's Bunk Room Once you've uncovered the hidden "doorknob," you will travel back in time to a realistic, old-school mine shaft. Get a glimpse of what life as a Pennsylvania coal miner may have been like back in the day. Wander this underground tunnel and explore the miner's bunk room, with its twin bunk beds, lantern lighting, and a ladder that seems to offer escape toward a patch of night sky, complete with shooting stars. Garden Room Across the tunnel, hidden in plain sight, is the Garden Room. Stepping into the Garden Room is akin to wandering through an outdoor ruin, with a dry-stacked stone archway, flagstone underfoot, and a backlit "shed" with a copper, standing-seam roof that serves as the closet. The queen-sized bed hangs suspended from ropes and swings gently to lull its occupant to sleep. Four removable stabilizing feet can be placed at each of the bed's corners to prevent the bed from swinging if that's your preference. But you'll be tempted to let the gentle sway of the bed relax you, as you gaze up at the twinkling stars, butterflies that flap their wings, and colored perimeter lighting you control. Cave Room Wandering back across the tunnel, the camouflaged sliding door opens to a rocky chamber that is the Cave Room. Remove the magic crystal from its portal to activate one of several light- and sound-scapes that will thrill and surprise. Wander the cave, exploring the backlit geodes, agate, stalactites, and five other crystal portals, each of which activates a different light and sound adventure, including a volcano, dynamiting in a mine, and the eerie echo of water dripping somewhere in a distant cavern. Follow the rock stairs up to a full-sized bed with an open window from which to look down into the cave. A rare-earth magnet embedded in a fossilized seashell fits into a slot at the head of the bed to turn off the lights without having to get out of bed. Miner's Bathroom Once you've explored the cave, walk down the tunnel and around a curve to find a bathroom built by the fictional miners who had the good fortune to strike water, and crafted a shower out of the rocky subterranean walls. The miner's bathroom has exposed copper piping, a copper sink, and an old-fashioned wooden "camp" toilet. The light over the shower changes colors, and water cascades gently down a rock wall to create the appearance of a mini-waterfall. Outdoor Dining & Patio Outside the private entrance to the Grotto is a lush, wooded property. The Grotto has a privacy canopy and outdoor dining table and chairs, which can be utilized for your project or moved out of the way for an alternate look. In short, the Grotto is like no place you've ever seen, and despite its mysterious themed rooms and meticulously designed spaces, you will be happy to find that it's also cozy and comfortable to spend time in. Whether you find your happy place swinging on the Garden Room bed, watching the stars from the miner's bunk, or hanging out in a volcanic cavern, your time at the Grotto will be unforgettable.
