Baltimore's most beautiful and most photographed church was founded in 1761 . Its first Pastor was selected by George Washington to serve the Continental Congress when it met in Baltimore in 1776-1777. The current Gothic sanctuary was constructed between 1855 and 1859 and features the tallest spire in the city at 273 feet. It was the third tallest structure in the United States until 1884. It is commonly considered the finest example of interior Victorian plasterwork in the United States. It features three Tiffany widows.
The church was used extensively as the filming location for "Chapter 30" Season 3, Episode 4 of House of Cards. In this episode, the church's sanctuary is used as the venue for the military funeral of three Navy SEALs killed in a covert operation in Afghanistan. Later in the episode, President Frank Underwood returns to the same church in the middle of the night to debate absolute power and justice with Bishop Charles Eddis.
The church is located in the Historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, on what may be Baltimore's most beautiful Street. The Walters Museum of Art and the Washington Monument are just a few blocks away.
The entire sanctuary is available. However, only productions appropriate for a sacred space will be considered. Each booking request will be carefully considered for compliance. Furniture may not be moved without supervision. The instruments may not be used without prior approval.
Sacraments such as weddings, baptisms and funerals require consideration and approval by the church Board of Directors and cannot be booked through PeerSpace.
