The nationally recognized 15-acre outdoor museum features a stunning array of select-labeled trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials, and vibrant annual flowers. Visitors can experience one of the top garden conifer collections in the country, with more than 600 cultivars, along with collections of native prairie grasses, flowering trees, shrub roses, wildflowers, ornamental shrubs, and nationally recognized display gardens. From the monarch watch butterfly station to the bird haven and herb garden, the arboretum offers an immersive environment that celebrates both horticulture and habitat.
Founded in 1970, the arboretum was gifted to Eastern Iowa Community Colleges in 2014, continuing its legacy as a place where people connect with plants through education and exploration.
That legacy now enters a new chapter. The fully renovated homestead has been transformed into a modern education and events center, expanding opportunities for year-round learning, community gatherings, and special events. The updated facility features flexible event space with panoramic views of the arboretum, technology-equipped classrooms, and a welcoming library that highlights the arboretum’s extensive plant collections. Inside, an immersive animal experience brings native species to life through carefully designed exhibits, creating meaningful connections for visitors of all ages.
