Las Vegas is known more for its flashy, eye-catching attractions than for its hidden gems — but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of lesser-known places to explore in this vibrant city. With a fair amount of tourism focused on the Strip, we think it’s worth exploring other sides of the city. This list of 10 hidden gems in Las Vegas will give you some ideas to choose from, including secret art installations, ghost towns, and private suites you can rent for a photo or video production.
1. Akhob by James Turrell
James Turrell is a visual artist known for his elaborate installations that play with light and space. While his work can be seen in world-famous museums from Tasmania to Argentina, you’d never guess where to find his Las Vegas installation unless you knew where to look. How about on the fourth floor of a Louis Vuitton store? Yes, the 24-minute Akhob experience is free and open to the public — although you may need to make a reservation months in advance in order to see it.
2. A designer villa in Paradise Palms
If you’re looking for a stylish Las Vegas atmosphere away from the Strip, consider this venue in Paradise Palms, a neighborhood known for its mid-century modern houses. Situated right near the Las Vegas National Golf Course, this house will take you back in time to vintage Las Vegas for a corporate gala, wedding, or any other formal affair. Outside catering isn’t allowed, but you can arrange for food and beverage options through the Peerspace Concierge service.
3. A resort style home in Summerlin West
This residential neighborhood near Red Rock Canyon offers a true Las Vegas resort experience away from the crowds. You’ll have a private backyard with a pool and water fountain with space for up to 45 guests. There’s a shaded patio area for daytime events, as well as a firepit and pool lights for the evening. You’ll also have access to an indoor kitchen and living room. No large parties are allowed, so rent this space for a bridal or baby shower, photoshoot, or company retreat.
If you’ve ever hiked, then you’re familiar with the stacks of rocks — called “cairns” — that people stack alongside trails. But chances are you’ve never seen any that are 30 feet high and painted in bright colors! That’s what makes this hidden gem in Las Vegas so incredible. Designed as an art piece by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, it will be displayed until at least 2021. You won’t be the first person to do a photoshoot here, but that’s no reason not to come see it for yourself.
5. A former mining town in Cerro Gordo
This location is several hours away from Las Vegas, but we think the novelty of it makes it worth the trip. After all, there aren’t many places you can rent an entire ghost town for your photoshoot or company event! This former mining town has 22 structures on 360 acres of land, including an Old West saloon with a bar, cardroom, and two pianos. You won’t find any modern amenities on the property, but you will have views of Death Valley and Sequoia National Park. It’s a stunning backdrop for portraits, wedding photos, and video productions with up to 25 people on site.
6. A set of suites in downtown Vegas
This hidden gem in Las Vegas is another great photoshoot location from a different era. Inspired by Jayne Mansfield’s Pink Palace, it features glitzy, glamorous, and luxurious decor. With dark wooden floors, floral wallpaper, and a tufted bed, you’ll have several options for a photoshoot in one of this apartment’s stylish chambers. Your local host has additional rooms available at the same location, including an enchanted fairy tale suite and ’80s playhouse pad, that all share an outdoor patio and firepit. Rent them individually, or book all six of them on Peerspace!
While so much of Las Vegas is focused on the modern and the new, it’s worth a visit to Springs Preserve to explore some of region’s history. This hidden gem in Las Vegas includes an exhibit on the city’s past, as well as a nature preserve, botanic gardens, and butterfly habitat. There’s also Boomtown 1905, an interactive streetscape and train depot that’s fun for the entire family. Only three miles from the Strip, it makes for a great day-trip or even a corporate outing.
8. A sparkling dance studio in Las Vegas
This spacious studio offers a beautiful space for a dance performance, rehearsal, yoga class, or any other kind of small group event. With around 2500 sq.ft. of space, you can fit up to 75 people here for your gathering. The wall mirrors and chandeliers give it a sparkly Las Vegas vibe that’s also great for photoshoots and video productions. The venue has a built-in sound system and lots of natural light, making it easy to show up to your event and jump right in!
9. An industrial production space in Las Vegas
Perfect for visiting photographers and production companies, this massive warehouse has over 160,000 sq.ft. of indoor and outdoor facilities to choose from. With multiple stages and a backlot, this is your go-to spot for music videos and other productions in Las Vegas. Lighting equipment, catering options, hair and makeup, and post-production services are available, too. Just ask the venue’s host or call up the Concierge service to explore your options.
10. An 80-acre ranch in Newberry Springs
Finally, let’s take one more trip outside the city to this 80-acre ranch that’s halfway between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. If you’re looking for a location to capture a remote desert vibe, then this 80-acre property may be just right for your photo or video shoot. The ranch includes a small lake with a patio and outdoor bar. There’s also a saloon with a working kitchen and accommodation for up to 19 overnight guests. It’s a great Wild West pit stop on the drive to or from Las Vegas!
