10 Awesome Hidden Gems in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is known more for its flashy, eye-catching attractions than for its hidden gems — but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of lesser-known places to explore in this vibrant city. With a fair amount of tourism focused on the Strip, we think it’s worth exploring other sides of the city. This list of 10 hidden gems in Las Vegas will give you some ideas to choose from, including secret art installations, ghost towns, and private suites you can rent for a photo or video production.

1. Akhob by James Turrell

James Turrell is a visual artist known for his elaborate installations that play with light and space. While his work can be seen in world-famous museums from Tasmania to Argentina, you’d never guess where to find his Las Vegas installation unless you knew where to look. How about on the fourth floor of a Louis Vuitton store? Yes, the 24-minute Akhob experience is free and open to the public — although you may need to make a reservation months in advance in order to see it.

4. Seven Magic Mountains

If you’ve ever hiked, then you’re familiar with the stacks of rocks — called “cairns” — that people stack alongside trails. But chances are you’ve never seen any that are 30 feet high and painted in bright colors! That’s what makes this hidden gem in Las Vegas so incredible. Designed as an art piece by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone, it will be displayed until at least 2021. You won’t be the first person to do a photoshoot here, but that’s no reason not to come see it for yourself.

After all, there aren’t many places you can rent an entire ghost town for your photoshoot or company event! This former mining town has 22 structures on 360 acres of land, including an Old West saloon with a bar, cardroom, and two pianos. You won’t find any modern amenities on the property, but you will have views of Death Valley and Sequoia National Park. It’s a stunning backdrop for portraits, wedding photos, and video productions with up to 25 people on site.
