The 8 Most Instagrammable Places in Indianapolis

Indianapolis has no shortage of Instagram-worthy locations. The Circle City is home to the world’s largest children’s museum, a world-class zoo, and tons of historic buildings and public art. But, if you want to take your feed beyond these places, then you might need to venture deeper into the city. Thanks to its creative community and innovative entrepreneurs, Indianapolis is home to Instagrammable sites that go well beyond the tourist hot spots. Our list of the eight most Instagrammable places in Indianapolis includes several of these picture-perfect places, from bespoke eateries to photo studios and posh event venues.

1. Soak up the classic atmosphere of the Scottish Rite Cathedral

This unique building was constructed in 1929 in the Tudor Gothic style, and it does not disappoint. Intricate woodwork and marble floors make every inch of this cathedral look incredible.

If you’re shooting inside the cathedral, be sure to get plenty of pictures with the Gothic arched door in the Tiler’s room as a backdrop — these wooden doors with stained glass will make you forget you’re in downtown Indianapolis. You don’t have to be invited to a wedding, either, to shoot in this venue. The Scottish Rite Cathedral has a cafe open during the week, so stop in, grab a bite, and snap a few breathtaking photos.

2. Take chic and elegant snapshots at Laurel Hall

Laurel Hall was built to be the home of one of Indiana’s wealthiest families in 1916. Since then, however, the mansion has become modernized, transforming into one of the nicest looking venues in town. It’s great site for weddings, conferences, or any special event — anything photographed here is going to look exceptional.

The immaculate grounds add to the magic of this place, so be sure to have your camera ready both inside and outside the venue. Large arched windows let in plenty of natural light, and they also make for great backdrops in and of themselves.

3. Enjoy exposed brick, coffee, and ballroom dancing at the Neidhammer

The Neidhammer is a fantastic industrial space that underwent restoration to become an incredible modern event venue. Huge windows light the space well, and the plaster walls and exposed brick you’ll find everywhere make for a unique backdrop for any photo.

While the building is set up for events and weddings, you’ll find the Neidhammer’s home to a coffee shop, too, so hit up the cafe with camera in hand — you won’t be disappointed. In addition, the Neidhammer frequently hosts special events, like a karaoke night and ballroom dancing.

4. Take sunlit selfies on the rooftop patio of Mavris Arts and Event Center

Twelve years of restoration turned this industrial brick building into the modern venue that it is today. Bringing those new amenities to the Mavris Arts and Event Center didn’t sacrifice anything aesthetically — you’ll still find exposed brick and wooden beams throughout. This is a space that continues to make you feel as if you’re stepping into the past.

The main space is brightly lit, on account of it being surrounded by windows. In addition, weddings look amazing here, and it’s a great spot for corporate events, too. Regardless of what you’re attending at Mavris, get ready to produce amazing work in one of the most Instagrammable places in Indianapolis.

5. Win at retro games and Instagram at Tappers Arcade Bar

What could be better than a hip bar with great brews on tap? How about one packed with arcade games and pinball machines? One of the most Instagrammable places in Indianapolis has just that. Tappers, found in Fletcher Place, has it all. The spot’s rotating tap list focuses on the best craft beers of the region, and the bartenders serve expertly handcrafted cocktails.

The real draw at Tappers, however, is the free-to-play arcade and very cheap pinball machine (only a couple quarters a game). There are dozens of retro machines, which are not only tons of fun to play, but will infuse a nice amount of 1980s nostalgia into your Instagram feed.

6. Take your food and drink Instagram game to the next level at Bar One Fourteen

When it comes to bespoke cocktails, you won’t find anything better than the offerings at Bar One Fourteen. This luxury microbar will take your breath away with their inventive drinks and impressive menu — even the bar glasses have gorgeous designs on them. And, on top of that, the place looks extraordinary!

This excellent, moody bar has plenty of dark woods and patinated brass, and dark gray walls complete the aesthetic. You’ll be snapping amazing food photos in no time, all while enjoying some tunes on their vintage Quicksilver Audio reel-to-reel — grab the bar seat closest to this piece of great equipment so it can be featured in the background of your shots.

7. Cozy up to an amazing meal and even better photos at Provision

Provision offers an incredible culinary experience, with a menu full of locally sourced items, so you can be confident your food is ethically produced and supports the local economy. Located inside the Ironworks Hotel, Provision has its aesthetic vision locked down, and you’ll notice it from the moment you want through the door.

Presentation goes hand in hand with quality, and you’ll find that each of Provision’s dishes look as good as they taste. The restaurant itself is brightly lit, thanks to its many floor-to-ceiling windows, and the interior is a highly photogenic mix of modern design and farmhouse-style sensibilities. So, grab a seat, order a cocktail and bite to eat, and keep your camera close by.

8. Achieve pro-level studio-quality Instagram status at Elements Collective

If studio work is more your speed, then check out Elements Collective. Many photo studios will not provide lighting equipment — or they may only do so for an additional fee — but Elements Collective hooks you up from the start. Their Profoto gear is the best on the market, and the 1500-square-foot studio gives you plenty of room to spread out for your shoot.

The friendly staff is happy to walk you through using the lights if you’re new to studio photography (they even teach workshops). However, if you know what you’re doing, you’ll have plenty of room to breathe. Feel free to bring your own equipment as well — the studio is on the first floor of its building and easy to access, so hauling in your gear won’t slow you down.

These locations are a great start, but there are plenty of more places to explore. Indianapolis is home to amazing public art and tons of great museums, all of them deserving of some love on Instagram. So, feel free to walk around and explore the city a little. Who knows what else you’ll find — if you keep your eyes open, you’re sure to run into even more of the most Instagrammable places in Indianapolis.
