Atlanta-based prison sets for movies

Prisons are a major trope in cinematography and are one of the more difficult sets to create. Since there are often significant legal issues when using real prisons as filming locations, some companies have built their own prison sets. With a quick booking, you can be filming in a set indistinguishable from the real thing by the next day! A good prison set will have more than bars and a bunk bed, however. An interrogation room, booking area, detective's area with one way mirrors, and other rooms help sell the realism of the scene to viewers. Some prison sets also include orange/barred jumpsuits, police uniforms, handcuffs, electric chairs, and other props. Whether you're filming a documentary, murder mystery, or prison break adventure, you're sure to find the right set here in Atlanta!

Rent a prison set for filming in Atlanta

Prison movie locations in Atlanta are often built as part of a production set. These agencies provide sets that may be empty, waiting for props, lighting, and your ideas to decorate them. Other sets in their building will come decorated to recreate kitchens, hospitals, banks, and other scenes for filmmaking. When you rent a prison set for filming in Atlanta, you usually book by the hour or day. More potential prison sets can be found in escape rooms. These are themed activity venues where the goal is to roleplay a mystery story and find your way out of the facility in a set amount of time. Escape rooms can be built to look like a Scooby Doo mystery mansion, a hospital, or even a prison cell. Cumberland, GA, has a prison themed escape room that's also open for films and social media use, rentable by the hour!

Film-friendly prisons in Atlanta

What if prison sets aren't good enough for your next film? Maybe you're filming a documentary that takes place in a Georgia prison and want to work in the actual location? If so, then there's no substitute for a film-friendly prison. Movies can and have been made in prisons, both abandoned and working. An abandoned prison is much easier since there are fewer legal hurdles. For a working prison, you'll have to get in touch with the public relations department or management. Explain in detail who you are, what you're doing, and why. And then inquire into possible rates. The prison likely won't allow filming in certain areas and may require you to not capture the faces of anyone working or being held there. But it's not impossible if you have the time to work through the legal issues!

Bar
The space worked perfectly for our shoot and plenty of parking for my cast and crew. It even had a jail cell and interrogation room inside which was a pleasant surprise. The only thing is it’s a bit tight inside so maybe can accommodate no more than 25 people...
