Historic venues offer something truly out of the ordinary. Whether that’s a nod to era architecture, or curated vintage furnishings, the most outstanding structures embody a timeless quality that never goes out of style. That’s why throwing an event in a historic venue will elevate the experience for guests in a way unlike any other.

We believe every space has a story – and none more so than historic venues. So we rounded up some of the most historic and unique venues on Peerspace. 

1. 16th Street Station – Oakland, CA

This architecturally splendid train station has been making history for over 100 years. What was once a hub for transportation now functions as an amazing space for production, meetings, and events. With neoclassical features including dramatic ceilings, original brick walls, and arched windows, this space has been a beloved production site for some of the most influential figures in entertainment. When you book this spaces, you’ll walk amongst hallways with greats, from Mumford & Sons to the award-winning cast of RENT.

2. Chez Poulet – La Lengua, San Francisco, CA

From stamp factory to auto shop to circus training grounds, this spacious warehouse has a storied past in one of San Francisco’s most colorful neighborhoods. You’ll feel the myriad of possibilities this space can be used for from the moment you enter the space. Vintage furniture,  lounge rooms, large skylights, and hanging plants merge in this space to provide a lush, atmospheric environment for production and events.

3. Innovation Hangar at the Palace of Fine Arts  – Marina District, San Francisco, CA

With its signature architecture and impeccable landscaped groups, the Palace of Fine Arts is one of the most distinguished spaces in the Bay Area. Originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-Pacific exhibition to showcase fine art, this social innovation space has continued to be at the forefront of art, science and technology. It was used as a military vehicle storage during WWII, before transitioning to housing the renowned Exploratorium Museum in 1969. It has retained all of the period charms with the addition of new tech features and modern amenities, making it perfect for events and conferences.

4. The Fox Theater – Redwood City, CA

This historical theatre built in 1928 inspired by Middle Eastern architecture was built for the stars. It gained fame for reestablishing the movie industry and offering the opportunity to stray from silent films with live stage shows, called talkies. While it’s technology has been updated, its elegant design continues to inspire. It has sweeping staircases, gorgeous lighting, and the flexibility to be built as a functional theatre, or grand ballroom. It’s beautiful restoration gives it a luxurious vibe to provide an intimate setting for special events.

5. Long Beach Historical Venue – Alamitos Beach, Long Beach, CA

This impressive venue is located on a quaint, sunny street in Southern California. While the neighborhood might be unassuming, this landmark 1924 Spanish-Revival space is anything but. Many prominent organizations and top-tiered companies have found themselves at home under its beautiful red-tile roof, including one of the first women’s clubs in California.

6. Los Angeles Coliseum – South Figueroa Corridor, Los Angeles, CA

When it comes to historic sports venues, it’s almost impossible to top the legacy of the Los Angeles Coliseum. Since it was commissioned in 1921 as a memorial to WWI veterans, it has hosted countless historic and cultural milestones including two Summer Olympics, major championship games, and concerts with legends such as Bruce Springsteen. Renting out one of the Coliseum’s myriad of incredible spaces lets you unlock history and impress your guests with an unforgettable and unique venue.

7. Creative Hollywood Warehouse – Melrose, Hollywood, CA

This old Hollywood warehouse has been converted into a sleek and sophisticated event venue. The combination of brick walls, concrete floors, and the arched ceilings with skylights and exposed beams give this space a chic atmosphere with a nod to its industrial roots. An added bonus? This unique venue continues to make its mark on history – all proceeds from space rental are used to fund youth programing for underprivileged students.

8. Studio Trilogy – SoMa, San Francisco, CA

If walls could speak, this space would surely sing. When it comes to having had its fair share of influential entertainers and industry vets walk through its doors, this eclectic San Francisco space is hard to beat. Boasting a beautiful patio, luxe lounge area and recording studio where Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Skrillex, will.i.am and other major artists have recorded, this event venue offers a relaxed yet contemporary vibe to host an elevated event.

9. Queen Anne Masonic Lodge – West Queen Anne, Seattle, WA

Journey into Seattle’s historic past in this unique venue located in one of the city’s most historic suburbs. The building was constructed in 1905, coinciding with the stampede of settlers who were hoping to strike it rich in the Yukon gold fields. While its days of hosting miners around its bar have long since past, this space has preserved the best of the era with red brick, mahogany walls, and a rustic bar that is sure to elevate any offiste, production or private event.

10. Getaway Motor Club – Govalle, Austin, TX

From vintage cars to pinball machines, this warehouse space has a decidedly retro vibe for a reason: it was inspired by two brothers and their father’s love of fast cars, camaraderie, and good vibes of the 60s. The assortment of rare collectables provides a unique, interactive experience for guests. And to truly stand out amongst unique venues for private parties, film shoots and performances, this location goes the extra mile for professionals with co-working desks and plenty of meeting space.
