Known for being an oasis of art, culture, and quirkiness, Texas’s capital city of Austin has a reputation for creativity and a healthy dose of delightful eccentricity. It also has no shortage of things to do this June. Whether you’re a local or planning to visit from out of town, look for silent discos, sound baths, freestyle dancing, and even kayaking with a twist.

Here’s a rundown of some of the most unusual June events that help to keep Austin weird. They’re sure to help you relax, feel artistically inspired, dance the night away, or find a sense of community.

1. Silent Disco socials

When: Offered monthly; June 12, 2026; 8 p.m.

Where: Punch Bowl Social Austin Domain; 11310 Domain Dr., Suite 100, Austin

Price: $13 per person

The experience: In addition to bowling, arcade games and karaoke, Punch Bowl Social locations offer a rotating list of special events known as “happenings.” Austin’s Domain Drive location schedules once-a-month silent discos that allow participants to dance to music only they can hear. Grab a set of headphones that can be tuned to one of three “stations,” each featuring a different DJ-spun genre. Grab a bite to eat while you’re there, and take advantage of drink specials.

Why it’s unique: A silent disco allows you to literally dance to your own beat — because nobody else can hear it. Although the event takes place at a social hub, you and your friends will be in your own little world. Plus, for anyone interested in great photos for the ‘gram, you’ll score a clubby atmosphere with plenty of colorful lights.

Other key info: Disco-goers can buy tickets at the door or in advance on the Eventbrite website. Advance tickets can be refunded up to seven days prior to the event. This silent disco is for attendees who are 21 or older.

When: Ongoing with various days and times available in June

Where: 9501 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Suite 301, Austin; virtual events also available

Price: $65 for 50-minute sessions

The experience: Sound bathers can sign up for a variety of sessions that include guided meditation while surrounded by sounds and tones at frequencies that help to ground you to the earth. Just some of Meditation Bar’s options include scent and sound, full-moon clearing sessions, and vibration therapy, all of which are designed to center, calm, and reset your system.

Why it’s unique: If you’re looking for a social way to de-stress and unwind while clearing your mind and restoring your body, this is an excellent option. In-person sessions are set at a studio in the woods, which only adds to the serene ambiance and sense of calm you’ll feel after the experience. Plus, sessions are limited to just two people, so they feel hyper personal and exclusive.

Other key info: Reservations can be made on the Meditation Bar website. Refunds are not permitted, but if you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, you can shift your reservation to a different class. The studio can be difficult to find; check the website ahead of your visit for specific directions. The studio is also a shop that sells crystals, jewelry, and other restorative goods.

3. Comedy in the capital at Speakeasy

When: Every Sunday in June at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Downtown Austin’s Warehouse District; 412 Congress Ave., Austin

Price: $17.95 per person

The experience: Speakeasy in Austin is housed in a historic Prohibition-era building that has been lovingly preserved and restored. It hosts live comedy shows that feature both local and visiting comics, especially up-and-comers (but sometimes big names pop in, too). With shows scheduled every Saturday, there are plenty of chances to catch some laughs this June.

Why it’s unique: Not only will you have a chance to scope out new talent before they make it big, but you can stick around after each show for free live music. There’s also bowling, pool, and Ping-Pong, all without having to leave the building.

Speakeasy is organized on three levels with the stage on the first floor, featuring a 1920s theme that lives up to the venue’s name. There’s an antique two-lane bowling alley on the second floor, and the upper level has a private ballroom and access to the rooftop terrace for stunning views.

Other key info: Tickets are nonrefundable and are for sale on Eventbrite’s website. Visitors can make VIP table reservations via a form directly on the Speakeasy website.

When: Ongoing, Sunday to Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday, 10:30 a.m. to midnight; Saturday, 10 a.m. to midnight

Where: 310 Congress Ave., Austin

Price: $18 for adults; $14 for seniors, teachers and students; $12 for kids

The experience: For a visit to the Texas Toy Museum, prepare to wander through displays of some of the most memorable toys from the early 1900s through the early 2000s with a special focus on the ’80s and ’90s. Think action figures, plush toys, costumes and more, featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Alf, The Rugrats, Polly Pocket, The Simpsons, Jem and the Holograms, Care Bears, Transformers, Power Rangers and other popular characters. To fully immerse yourself, grab a craft beer, and complete the museum’s scavenger hunt.

Why it’s unique: When you’re finished taking a trip down memory lane, head to the attached arcade to play arcade games like G.I. Joe, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., and Jurassic Park- and Star Wars-themed pinball, among others. This independently owned museum started as a toy lover’s pet project and developed into something the public can enjoy. It’s one attraction that’s sure to bring back nostalgia, especially for members of Gen X and millennials, and it’s a perfect option for anyone looking to snag some social media-worthy content.

Other key info: Tickets are available on the Texas Toy Museum website. All tickets include admission with in-and-out privileges, as well as free game play on all of the museum’s video game consoles and pinball machines.

5. Ecstatic Dance Gatherings

When: Ongoing with several dates and times through June

Where: Austin Ecstatic Dance Center; 10203 Old Manchaca Rd., Austin

Price: $15 to $25 per person (free for kids) for 75- to 120-minute classes

The experience: For those not in the know, ecstatic dancing is based on the tenets of connecting with the earth and communicating only with uninhibited motion that allows participants to release negative energy, reset, and regulate their nervous systems. Join in one of the many events held at the Austin Ecstatic Dance Center to express yourself in an environment free from judgement.

Why it’s unique: This type of dancing allows you to be yourself and dance freely, however the music moves you. The vibe will help you let go of self-consciousness in a supportive environment where everyone else is just as grounded and expressive. Select events include themes like jungle animals, black light glow-in-the-dark, and even blindfolded dancing, which helps you to be more in tune with your surroundings.

Other key info: Tickets are available at the door. Participants may not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

6. Bat-watching tours on the river

When: Ongoing with various dates in June, 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Lady Bird Lake, Austin

Price: $50 per person for 2.5 hours of tandem kayaking or giant paddleboarding (all ages); $65 per person for 2.5 hours of nighttime glow paddleboarding (ages 3 and older)

The experience: On these tours by Boats & Bats, you’ll travel by water to see some of the most impressive natural sights in Austin, including the main highlight — a resident colony of more than 1 million bats that lives under South Congress Bridge. Meet your guide for a trip on Lady Bird Lake, where you’ll paddle or kayak to the best vantage point to catch the bats taking their nightly flight out for dinner. All equipment is provided.

Why it’s unique: Boats & Bats is independently owned and operated by a local expert guide. You can choose from three options to catch the sunset, bats, and city skyline: tandem kayaks, giant paddleboards or light-up paddleboards with 12 different light pattern settings.

Not only does Boats & Bats provide all of the necessary equipment and a guide, but they also take complimentary photos of you during the tour and send them to you after so you don’t have to worry about losing your phone in the lake. Plus, when you book, you’ll receive a curated list of the owner’s personal favorite things to do during your visit to Austin so you can better plan your trip.

Other key info: Book a tour directly on the Boats & Bats website. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early. If you’re more than 10 minutes late, you’re likely to miss the tour, and you won’t receive a refund. Cancellations can be made for a full refund up to a week before your scheduled tour date. Tours are weather-dependent; if your tour is canceled, you’ll receive an automatic refund.

If booking for one to two people, opt for a kayak tour, as giant paddleboards are best for groups of three or more. It’s recommended to leave a change of clothes and a towel in your car. You should also check the weather forecast to see if you’ll need a sweatshirt or jacket. Snacks and drinks are welcome, but alcohol is not.

7. Roller derby rowdiness with the Texas Rollergirls

When: June 6, 2026; 4:30 p.m.

Where: Travis County Expo Center; 7311 Decker Lane, Austin

Price: $24 for adults; $19 kids 6 to 12; $2 kids 5 and younger, or free with player promo code; $40 VIP tickets include a parking pass, reserved seating and a swag bag

The experience: Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for this Texas Rollergirls double-header with the first bout starting at 5 p.m. Watch as talented skaters from the Hotrod Honeys and Honky Tonk Heartbreakers go head-to-head. Bout two pits the Hell Marys and the Hustlers against one another. The goal is for a designated scorer or “jammer” to pass “blockers” on a track in order to score points.

Why it’s unique: This type of entertainment incorporates athleticism, skill, creativity, and physical toughness with brightly colored uniforms and hilarious, attention-grabbing player nicknames. It’s not something you see every day, so if you’re looking for a fun, weird, and stereotypically Austin sporting event, this is it.

Other key info: You can purchase tickets on Events.com. The matches are family-friendly, and children are welcome. Parking is free. Seating is available, but personal chairs are not allowed. Concessions, including alcohol, will be sold at the event, and local vendors will also set up their wares.

When: Ongoing, by appointment; closed Sundays

Where: 4422 Lareina Dr., Austin

Price: By donation; $5 per person recommended

The experience: When you arrive at the Cathedral of Junk, you’ll be able to meander through this three-level structure of junk and marvel at all manner of random items and bric-a-brac, set in a residential neighborhood. Explore several rooms that make the building feel significantly larger on the inside than it looks from the exterior.

Why it’s unique: Owner Vince Hannemann has been constantly evolving and changing this pastime-turned-art-project for several decades. The cathedral’s shape, size and plethora of objects it comprises offer a truly unique sight for visitors to experience. Plus, it’s ripe for TikTok and Instagram fodder.

Other key info: Tickets are not necessary. To visit, call 512-299-7413. Hannemann works a day job and also handles appointments for the cathedral, so you might need to be flexible with dates or times. Children are welcome.
