The 8 Best Pet Photographers in Memphis

For many of us, our pets aren’t just animals we share a home with — they’re a vital part of a loving family. They’re treasured. Our furry friends have come to hold their own very special place in our hearts, and now more than ever before, they’ve got their own special place in our documented memories, too. We here at Peerspace have compiled a list of our favorite Memphis pet photographers, listed in no particular order. We’re so excited to share them with you today. If you’re a Memphian with a lil’ buddy and you want to be sure they’re included in the visual history of your family, look no further: we’ve got you covered!

1. Phillip Van Zandt Photography

Voted Memphis’s Best Pet Photographer in 2014 by Bluff City Bark, Phillip Van Zandt is a known player in the world of Memphis pet photographers. He spent several years volunteering with the local humane society, helping countless animals find their forever homes through his gorgeous photography. Phillip feels a close connection with animals, dogs in particular, and brings a certain perceptive calm to his shoots. He prioritizes safety above all else and strives to ensure that his clients (both those with and without fur) are happy and at ease.

2. Katie & Loki of Kathryn Willis Paper

Kathryn Willis is an artist of many media. She sings, she paints, and she does pet portraits — with cameras and with paper, too! Her paper art is out of this world, and we’re not exaggerating when we say that we’d never seen anything quite like it before! With her camera, she mostly documents the barkin’ good life of her rescue, Loki, on Instagram. In 2015, she published an entire book of photography entitled The Year of the Dog: 52 Weeks of Memphis.

3. Sandra Ferguson Photography

Sandra Ferguson is an institution in the world of Memphis pet photographers. With at least 15 years of experience, she has honed her skills and fine-tuned her artistic style. It is of the utmost importance to Sandra that your best buddy be comfortable and relaxed, and to this end, most of her sessions will likely begin and end with her “rolling on the ground with them.” If you like clever poses, funny little costumes, and photos that will truly capture your pet’s unique personality, Sandra’s the Memphis pet photographer for you!

4. Chris Landau Photography

Though Chris Landau’s specialties are senior and family portraits, as well as professional headshots, she has a special talent for pet photography, too. And there’s no way we’re going to leave her off our list of our favorite Memphis pet photographers! The photo set we’ve chosen to feature here today from a Valentine’s Day event is the perfect illustration of her approach to pet photography. With a clean, no-nonsense editorial touch and a keen eye for lighting and angles, Chris never fails to deliver beautiful images of your favorite family members — no matter how many legs they have, or whether or not they’re covered in fur!

5. Katie Reed of Captured by Katie

Up-and-comer Katie Reed is next up on our list. Katie’s gorgeous portrait work often includes her clients’ pets, and though she may not self-identify as a pet photographer at this time, we believe her promise is more than enough to warrant a spot on this list! Katie’s just getting started, and we here at Peerspace are confident we’ll be seeing more from her in the years to come. We’re so excited to see where Katie’s work takes her — almost as excited as the very good boy in the featured photo above!

6. Erin Dahl Photography

https://www.instagram.com/p/BstListhNG2/

We wholeheartedly believe in the importance of hobbies — of following your bliss and just having fun, of needing no reward or compensation at all beyond the joy that participating in that activity (whatever it may be) brings you. Erin Dahl, Memphis photographer of newborns and children, is a perfect example of this philosophy. She’s already one of Memphis’s most beloved family photographers, but what you might not have known about her is that she’s also incredible at taking pet pictures! On her Instagram page, you can get to know her tiny bernedoodle, total showstopper and sweetheart, Finn. Her love for her doggo and her passion for photography is self-evident, and we know we’d trust her to take our own puppy portraits if we were in the Memphis area ourselves!

7. Teresa Daniel Photography

A social media manager by day, as well as a freelance photographer and grad student by night, Teresa Daniel can just about do it all! She does lots of personal and professional branding work in addition to producing beautiful portraits. And, of course, she’s a dog mom’s dream pet photographer! Mom to her own rescue, Tracy Rene (shown in the photo we’ve chosen to feature here today), Teresa understands firsthand how important it is to many of us to include our fur babies in our family photo albums. She’s especially drawn to bright, warm, light, and airy textures, and we absolutely adore the way she captures the soul of each pet perfectly.

8. Jack Kenner

And last but certainly not least, wrapping up today’s list is none other than Jack Kenner, a long-time vet in the Memphis pet photography world. A multihyphenate, he’s a renowned photographer, educator, conservationist, dog wrangler, storyteller, award-winning filmmaker, and more. His work has a fine art bent to it, and his style has been described as featuring “dark backgrounds, vivid, intense colors, and shallow depth of field.”

There you have it, folks — our favorite Memphis pet photographers! We hope you’ve enjoyed checking them out today. If you’re in the market for a tail-waggingly talented pet photographer, consider one of these featured here today. We’re pawsitive you’ll be pleased!
