Twenty minutes from Bordeaux, past rolling parkland and walls three centuries old, sits a venue quietly redefining what a French château can be. Château Formont is undeniably grand and historic, but these days, you might hear the sounds of a wedding DJ drifting from its forest as a new generation discovers what it feels like to celebrate inside living history.

How did this intersection of historic and contemporary come to be? Four years ago, two brothers took on a one-of-a-kind project: acquiring and restoring this 18th-century French estate. Their goal was not to bring the residence back to life as a museum, but as a unique destination for modern events. Today, guests can book Château Formont for weddings, corporate retreats, birthday celebrations, and more, all within the same stone walls that have been standing since the 1700s.

Most historic venues ask guests to work around them. Instead, Château Formont works around its guests.

“Our approach was simple: transform a historic 18th-century château into a versatile, welcoming, and vibrant event destination while preserving its unique character,” the hosts share. “The inspiration comes from the desire to bridge heritage and modernity – combining the timeless charm of the château’s original architecture with contemporary design elements and modern amenities.”

The brothers kept the guest experience top of mind while renovating the château, ensuring the space felt customizable for each booking. Whether guests are hosting a wedding reception, corporate offsite, or creative shoot, each corner of the space is designed to adapt for the occasion. Same stone floors, same vaulted ceilings, completely versatile atmosphere.

The centerpiece of the château is the inner courtyard, a sweeping open-air space framed by the building’s original facades. It’s the perfect setting for golden hour ceremonies or candlelit dinners under starry skies.

Beyond the main terrace, the forested grounds and pool area create a backdrop that makes a team retreat feel like a genuine escape, elevates a photo shoot to a new level of elegance and sophistication, and lifts an outdoor dinner straight from the pages of a fairytale. Garden parties, summer aperitifs, and wedding celebrations drift across the sprawling estate, shifting naturally from one moment to the next.

Stepping foot inside the château, a reception hall shifts comfortably between configurations, whether rows of chairs for a keynote, long tables for a wedding feast, a clear floor for dancing. A dedicated catering area runs behind the scenes so that food and drink appear without disrupting the room. Smaller salons offer a change of pace: quieter, more intimate, well-suited to workshops, breakout conversations, or simply somewhere for guests to decompress.

Whether you’re planning a wedding, leadership retreat, or a private celebration that deserves more than a banquet hall, Château Formont offers a one-of-a kind venue with real history and the flexibility to make your event feel entirely your own.
