Top 5 Headshot Photographers in London

A headshot has one job: to make a stranger trust you before you have met, whether that stranger is a casting director scrolling Spotlight or a client checking your LinkedIn profile. London’s headshot market grew up around actors, and it still works to their rhythm, with longer sessions built around several looks and a review afterwards where you choose your favourites.

We looked at London photographers with a dedicated headshot practice and picked five whose pricing and credentials we could check against a source. All five publish their prices.

How we created our list

Our goal is to connect you with photographers who have a proven track record of excellence and reliability. We vetted the best photographers based on a set of criteria:

  • Portfolio depth: We look at the full body of work behind each photographer, not just a handful of standout images, to get a true sense of consistency and skill.
  • Client reviews across multiple platforms: We analyze feedback from clients on Google, popular booking platforms, and social media to ensure consistent satisfaction.
  • Industry recognition and awards: We look for photographers with accolades from respected organizations and industry bodies relevant to their specialty, whether that’s weddings, commercial work, or beyond.
  • Professional credentials and associations: Active membership in industry groups, relevant certifications, and verified business operations, including appropriate insurance for working in the city, are often held by our photographers.

Speciality: Actor and corporate headshots, with 25 years of experience and a headshot and showreel package for actors.

Notable work: He holds exclusive rights for stills photography at an outdoor location in central London that has appeared in a Mission: Impossible film, Sherlock Holmes and Eastern Promises. He has photographed actors from agencies including Curtis Brown, United Agents, Independent Talent Group and Conway van Gelder Grant, and from drama schools such as RADA, Central, Guildhall, Italia Conti and ArtsEd. Finding the right headshot photographer

A headshot photographer’s portfolio shows their best frames. What you need to know is how they would work with you, and whether their sessions fit what the image is for.

1. Start from what the image is for

An actor needs a range of looks that suggest different castings. A consultant may need one confident image for LinkedIn and the company website. The photographers on this list are set up for different jobs, so start from the use.

2. Compare the total, not the session fee

Some prices include a set number of finished images, and others charge a session fee with each image on top. Work out what you will pay for the number of images you expect to use.

3. Check what the session length buys

A one-hour session and a four-hour session are different products. Longer sessions allow more outfits and more time to settle in, which matters if you dislike being photographed.

4. Ask to see a full session

Ask to see every frame from one session with one person. It shows you how much range in expression and lighting to expect, which a page of standout images cannot.

5. Look up the credentials

The APHP and Headshots Matter both list their members online, and the National Portrait Gallery publishes its prize selections, so a claim on a photographer’s site is quick to check.

What it costs

Sessions on this list start at £150 for one hour and run to a £500 session fee with images charged on top. A session ending with three or four finished images costs between £270 and £740, depending on the session length and how images are charged. Corporate team days are quoted separately.

Studio or on location

Roj Whitelock, Adam Hills and Tom Trevatt work from their own studios. Steve Lawton shoots outdoors in central London or at a home studio in Bermondsey, and The Headshot Pro has a studio in Motspur Park plus a mobile setup for offices. If you are organising headshots for a team and want a neutral space away from the office, Peerspace lists photo studios across London that you can book by the hour.

Retouching and delivery

Most photographers here retouch only the images you choose. Roj Whitelock sends a contact sheet within five working days and the edits within seven, and Tom Trevatt delivers within ten working days. Adam Hills sends a web gallery within 24 hours and retouched images seven to ten days after you order. Steve Lawton offers same-day turnaround for £100.

What to bring

Bring more outfits than you think you need and iron anything with creases. Roj Whitelock’s studio has a changing area with an iron and a steamer. For actors, Steve Lawton recommends a V-neck and no patterns or logos, and for corporate sessions he suggests smart solid colours.

How much does a headshot cost in London?

On this list, a one-hour session starts at £150, and a session with three or four finished images costs between £270 and £740. Corporate team days are quoted on request.

What is the difference between an actor headshot and a corporate headshot?

An actor headshot is meant to suggest casting types, so a session usually produces several distinct looks. A corporate headshot is usually one clean, approachable image for a website or a LinkedIn profile. Most photographers here do both.

How many final images do I need?

For LinkedIn, one strong image is usually enough. Actors often choose three to five, and most of Tom Trevatt’s clients choose around 12.

Are student discounts available?

Yes. Roj Whitelock, Steve Lawton and Adam Hills offer student rates on their sessions. Tom Trevatt gives 20% off the session fee to anyone within a year of finishing a degree and to Equity members.

What does APHP-approved mean?

It means the photographer is a member of the Association of Professional Headshot Photographers, a UK body set up in 2016. Its online directory lists approved members, so you can confirm the claim yourself.

A good headshot starts with the right photographer, and the right room

London has headshot photographers for every budget, from a one-hour LinkedIn refresh to a full day for an actor building a new set of looks. Start from what the image has to do, then compare what each session includes.

If you are planning a team headshot day, or want a session somewhere other than the office, explore Peerspace’s photo studios in London, bookable by the hour so you pay only for the time the shoot takes.
